During his recent appearance on "The Joel Klatt Show," Alabama's Nick Saban seemed to still be bothered by last season's College Football Playoff snub...
quote:

So but the problem with the way the whole system is, there's no accounting for that, right? So, all we do is take the teams that win the most games at the end of the year, put them in the playoffs. But do you really get the best teams? When they told me that we would be favored against three out of the four teams that got in the playoff, I'm like, why aren't we in the playoffs?
...
Does that mean they have a better team? Or does it mean that those people don't know what they're talking about? I really don't know that. But I'm not being critical of anybody. But if you're going to have parity, you have to have a better way of figuring out who has the best teams, not just because you lose two games on the last play of the game. That knocks you out when you may be better than somebody else who didn't have the same circumstances that they had played.

Why such animosity for a coach that literally brought your program back from the dead after an over 40 year coma?

Maybe it's not just about "who's better", Nick, but more about "who wins".

It is also about who a teams play. Do you think TCU or Michigan would have won at Tennessee or LSU this past year? TCU didn't even win their conference title and the team they lost to (KSU) Alabama throttled in the Sugar Bowl. Even OSU lost the biggest game they played at home to their rival and looked terrible doing it. Maybe Alabama didn't deserve the playoffs but they were as good as 3 of the 4 participants easily and lest you forget Alabama is the only team in the past 2 years to whip Georgia.

I'm not sure that Saban would have been favored over Ohio State, Michigan or Georgia. He's a real whiner.

Had Saban's team lost 1 game and a team w/ a tougher schedule that lost 2 games got in, Saban would whine about that. Saban is the GOAT - but he is also a tool.

Don't lose two games and you won't have to worry about it.

If the whole point is the put the best 4 teams in, how can some other team be favored over not 1 but 3 of those 4 teams and not be in the playoff?

He was also favored in the two games he lost so just because you are favored doesn’t mean you are better
