During his recent appearance on "The Joel Klatt Show," Alabama's Nick Saban seemed to still be bothered by last season's College Football Playoff snub...
quote:

So but the problem with the way the whole system is, there's no accounting for that, right? So, all we do is take the teams that win the most games at the end of the year, put them in the playoffs. But do you really get the best teams? When they told me that we would be favored against three out of the four teams that got in the playoff, I'm like, why aren't we in the playoffs?
...
Does that mean they have a better team? Or does it mean that those people don't know what they're talking about? I really don't know that. But I'm not being critical of anybody. But if you're going to have parity, you have to have a better way of figuring out who has the best teams, not just because you lose two games on the last play of the game. That knocks you out when you may be better than somebody else who didn't have the same circumstances that they had played.

Don't lose two games and you won't have to worry about it.

A one loss Bama... I get. But if you lost twice then you don't deserve to be there.

Question you should always ask yourself when comparing teams. Who do you think is the better team. You won’t always be right, but if you’re being objective you will be. Does anyone think TCU was the 4th best team. I’d say the SEC had at least 5 teams that were better.

So 1 loss BAMA ALWAYS gets the nod. And that’s not good enough. The midget needs 2 loss BAMA to get the nod as well.

Don't lose to Tennessee and LSU and it's not a problem, Nicky.

So what he is saying is that in 2011 Oklahoma State should have still gotten into the BCS championship game?

LSU fans were praying Oklahoma State would get in that year, sady for both teams they didn't!

Boo hoo. If you can’t even make it into your conference championship game, you have no business crying about playoffs.

So losses don't count if you're the better team? With playoffs you have to earn your way in and then win the playoffs. And don't mistake being favored by betting odds as being the better team.

Let it go, Nicky.

Sorry Nick, I love Bama but 2 losses is 2 losses. The one thing the committee has always been consistent on was no 2 loss team in the playoff.

Do better on the last play of the game? He conveniently leaves out the fact that they beat aTm on the last play of the game. Could have had 3 losses, where he is arguing they could have none. So if you want to pretend you didnt lose those two, I'll see it through the other lens and say you were a 3 loss team that got lucky on the last play 33% of the time

Texas also missed a field goal to win it against them. The argument they were two plays away from being undefeated is stupid. They were also 2 plus away from being 8-4.

Well let’s just not even have a regular season then coach. Just automatically go to a playoff and put the 4 best teams on paper in it.

It's a valid point but a bad argument. The SEC constantly beats itself up by having top talent and coaching. The better team losing on the last play of the game still loses. Just ask Georgia!

Maybe it's not just about "who's better", Nick, but more about "who wins".

It is also about who a teams play. Do you think TCU or Michigan would have won at Tennessee or LSU this past year? TCU didn't even win their conference title and the team they lost to (KSU) Alabama throttled in the Sugar Bowl. Even OSU lost the biggest game they played at home to their rival and looked terrible doing it. Maybe Alabama didn't deserve the playoffs but they were as good as 3 of the 4 participants easily and lest you forget Alabama is the only team in the past 2 years to whip Georgia.
