I wonder if our stadium noise will increase now that we are closing the north end? Assuming it will, and be gloriously deafening.

Never really understood decibel readings an how accurate they are
I would assume readings are highly dependent on location the meter, or maybe they are set up all over, I dont know
What I do know is that it feels like at some point 15 or so years ago, claimed decibel ratings have gotten wild, and every couple of years someone is claiming some new high number

They must be recording these numbers differently than they used to back in the day. The most dubious claim is the Chiefs. I think they claim 140 or so. And there’s just no damn way that’s accurate

All the SEC stadiums are loud except for Vandy. That's really all you need to know.

There’s really no other way tk say it for me:
If Neyland has all 105+ yelling, the double bowl will be louder than anywhere else
And yes, give credit to their fans.
I remember being g there for the 1988 Alabama game before the north or south end zone upper deck was built.
Loud place.

Until somebody does some highly-controlled research and puts the decibel reader in the exact same strategic spot in every stadium, I won't believe any of these rankings. Is the decidbel reader closer to the student section or the old money section? Are there a few loud asses yelling loud enough close enough to the reader to inflate the reading?

An AI chatbot tells me the following:
• 100,000 people yelling is louder than 50,000.
• A large stadium with 100,000 fans all screaming can reach around 120–130 dB near the crowd
• The increase follows a logarithmic law: doubling the number of people to 200,000 would only add about 3 dB.
• There isn't a practical "magic number" where adding more people stops increasing the sound. It keeps increasing, but with diminishing returns.

I've only been to Neyland Stadium once I think. The year Kelly Washington had like 800 receiving yards against us.
It was loud, ok, but @Auburn and @Florida have been the most consistently loud in my experience.

Penn State only makes the ranking because it counts the screams of anguished children in the mens locker room.

I've been in Tuscaloosa when it was loud for an entire game.
I've heard crowd pops there that were probably the loudest isolated noises I've ever experienced.
But for "average," consistent crowd noise week-to-week, we're probably near the bottom of the list, unfortunately.
Loudness is just too subjective and contingent on the circumstances.
