Mel Kiper Says He Has One SEC Player As 'Guaranteed' No. 1 Pick Of 2023 Draft
© Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports
ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. might be getting a little ahead of himself. On Sunday he made a big promise, guaranteeing that Alabama QB Bryce Young will be the number one pick of the 2023 NFL Draft... Slow down, Mel.

He's right. Nobody argued when they slotted Trevor Lawrence as the number 1 qb. The Alabama qb is on that level.

Had Tua or Trevor with it in 2019

I have a feeling that if any player being projected to be the #1 pick proceeds to break a bone in their hip, the prognosticators should have a little latitude to change their prediction.

Trevor wasn’t draft eligible until last year.

Good college qb in the bama system as he is a certain system qb, not a good nfl qb. So he got 1 or 2 more years left ?? some team bout to make him look bad in 2022

Is he a junior? Thank goodness....we won't have to see him next season. I thought he was a sophmore.

Bryce Young really impressed me against Auburn, taking his team 97 yards in 95 seconds when, prior to that, hadn’t scored a TD the entire game.

Mel is probably right on this one.

Been following him since he was a senior in high school. Come as no surprise.

Hard to duplicate good years. I can only see his stock dropping, without having a perfect season. Expectations are going to be through the roof.

Kids gonna get chewed up and spit out in the NFL. Nothing against him, but he ain’t no Tua and look how tough it’s been for him in the league.

I'm not sure about that, the kid is like my size at 5'9" or so and might weigh 175 wet. He doesn't run exceptionally well and appears to be scared to take hits.

Now I know why you get paid the big bucks Mel. What's next, telling me Nick Saban is GOAT, or Tom Brady is the GOAT. You've turned into "Captain Obvious" in CFB. You have about as much insight as the media on what Biden will do next to f up our country. ZERO

He will be the #1 pick. If he was coming out this year he would probably be the #1 pick.

I’m old enough to remember this clown writing Jake Locker in stone as the 2011 first overall pick a year before he declared. And Matt Barkley being the top recruit in high school and a lock to go #1 overall 3 years after as soon as he was eligible lol

At the time Barkley came out of high school, the belief that he was an easy lock for #1 overall when draft eligible was widely shared.

It was lazy analysis. But they had all just seen Matt Stanford pull it off so they just copy/pasted it. Kiper was dumb then and nothing’s changed

He could Tua a leg, then watch a 6'5" guy throw for 5,500 yds. This is kind of a dumb thing to guess aboot. Who is #1 in the 2029 draft?

"Who is #1 in the 2029 draft?" Bama long snapper

Does Saban's daughter have your favorite long snapper?
