SEC Network host Paul Finebaum ripped into 'SEC on CBS' on Monday.
Shanna Lockwood-USA TODAY Sports
SEC Network host Paul Finebaum ripped into 'SEC on CBS' on Monday. Per Saturday Down South...
quote:

“I have to say, the CBS approach to the game is getting tiresome. There’s no comparison to that primetime game on Saturday night, then you flip over and watch the Alabama-Texas A&M game. I still forget that Verne Lundquist is not doing the games. Brad Nessler is a very professional broadcaster, but he doesn’t distinguish himself like Verne did, or Keith Jackson did. Gary, what can you say about Gary that hasn’t already been said by 1,000 of your callers. Fowler has grown into the preeminent voice in college football and Kirk Herbstreit’s been that way for a long time.”
He didn't stop there...
quote:

“How stupid does that look now,” he said.

The Nov. 9 LSU-Alabama game would have been a better primetime choice, he said, as he pointed to the narrative that this is the best LSU team in recent memory with the chance to beat Alabama.

“This LSU team is different. They’re the most exciting LSU team I can ever remember,” Finebaum said. “You make your chops in this business by making the right call, and CBS blew it. They’re sitting there right now with the game of the year, one of the biggest games in the 10 years, and they could have had it in primetime as the biggest game of the college football season and it’s literally buried at 2:30 (Central Time) in the afternoon with 4,000 other games on.”

He gets a paycheck from Disney/ESPN. What do you expect him to say? He's also a biased mouthpiece for Alabama.

I have a hard time believing people take this guy seriously. He’s a shock jock is all he is. The Rush of sports. Although I do like Rush

He’s right. Espn/ABC primetime with Fowler and Kirk is on another planet than CBS at 2:30 with Gary.

CBS games suck period - way too long and with too many tv timeouts.

Finebaum claims the game is 'buried' at 2:30? Everyone in the country is going to be watching the game regardless of the time slot, hardly buried.

Why do they always have the same picture of this penis head in every article?

I would put more stock into his comments if he wasn't employed by ESPN. Sounds like typical CNN bashing of FoxNews and vice versa

The games on CBS are way too long

I'm ok with it being at 2:30 pm Central Time if it's in Tuscaloosa.

I personally love the 2:30 time slot.

Every year The media builds up LSU and says they can beat bama. I will believe it when I see it

I agree and disagree on certain things here: Nessler is fantastic and also that CBS' pregame theme is complete junk. That said, I understand why UGA/ND was the primetime game too.

Sparty, I agree. Nessler is fantastic. The game is supposed to be the star of the show. Nessler allows that to happen. There's not a Keith Jackson in every booth. He was a one of a kind.

Well he is an ESPN employee so I would think he would promote the night game on ESPN.

CBS is going to renegotiate with ESPN to make LSU - Bama a night game.

Why MSU vs. LSU over SC - Florida this week? Should be a much more interesting game, with much on the line

Cause USCe vs UF is probably going to be more boring in terms of style of play. People like seeing 50 points. Not defensive battles.

To Hangit: Actually LSU has one streak greater than 2 games: 2003-2007. Alabama has streaks of 3, 11, 5, 11, 4, 3, current 8. That's why Alabama leads 53-25-5, including 28-9-3 in Baton Rouge.

I know Baw.That is why I said 5, not 2. We had a coaching drought starting with Mike Archer, that lasted far too long.
