Multiple sources have reported that Alabama redshirt freshman quarterback Blake Barnett is transferring and has left the program. Per AL.com:
quote:

While the former five-star recruit opened the season as the Tide's starter, he was pulled following the second series of that opening game in favor of freshman Jalen Hurts.

Barnett had been Hurts' backup since that first game.

Barnett appeared in three of the first four games. He was 11 of 19 for 219 yards with two touchdown passes and no interceptions, including 4 of 7 for 55 yards with a touchdown during Alabama's 48-0 win over Kent State on Saturday.
Barnett was rated the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the 2015 recruiting class. He is from Corona, CA.

Ole Miss needs to invest in him. They will have all the dirt they need to get a free pass with Emmert.

I got no problem with it. Kid will start somewhere and have a good career when he would have been a backup here for the next 3 years behind Hurts unless the awful happens and he gets injured. Good luck to him and hope he gets the chance to meet our team on the field like Alvin Kamara gets to every year.

This makes me appreciate the aj mccarron that much more. Won his elite 11 camp, could have gone anywhere. Waited, competed and got his shot and performed. Gmac also. Texas tech was there waiting on him to come back. Waited and as a junior got his shot and won a national title. Barnett came to play football at alabama, Not for Alabama. Hell, even Bateman. Nobody probably deserved a transfer like he does but he's still there. Well, Saban said it. We'll focus on the guys who want to be team players.

Tough situation for the kid. Even McCarron didnt play until his 3rd year at Bama. He probably could be a really good player but needs to develop.
