sounds like this place has some sidewalk alumni. Never good to be in a foxhole with those type folks.

I only checked out of here. I watched the rest of the game and was happy, even though the so called internet experts elsewhere roasted us. I say eff them. We beat the unbeaten and #8 ranked team, got about 450 yards of offense doing so, and did it with some good players either opting out or injured. Not too shabby.

just so we are all clear, calling that timeout and then punting was still fricking stupid.
im not gonna expand on that and turn it into some overarching thought or statement on kirby or really anyone, but it was still a bad, isolated decision.
you can simultaneously believe that kirby is fricking excellent and we are in a great position as a program AND that nobody is perfect and it was a bad call. boy, am i glad that it worked out, though, that was awesome.

First of all, we were winning for the final 3 secs, not 2. Those are also the most important seconds to be leading. Ask Bama when they beat us in the NC game.
Also, we lead for almost 4 minutes in the 2nd Q when we kicked the FG to go up 10-7....which is about 110x as long as you stated

I consistently bitched about how bad the refs were. They were fricking awful and we’re blatantly keeping Cincinnati closer in the game.

Loads of UGA fans thought Cinci was a rent a win and we'd win easily by double digits. Cincinnati is a very good football team and we were down players and have seen another UGA team go through the motions in a bowl game in the Sugar Bowl against Texas. Many of us thought we'd win a close one or get beaten pretty badly...by 13 points or so...because we were missing players, have seen the team go through the motions against Texas and Cincinnati had an axe to grind and is a very good team....without any doubt the third best we played all season and possibly as good as Florida. All in all it was a good win and will produce some positive results next year...at the basic level much better to have won a close game against what many perceived as an inferior opponent over the off season than blowing that opponent out or, god forbid, losing to them....Smart and company can use the game as incentive not to drink the poison while also pointing out that working hard and staying focused resulted in a W....and Ws are always better than Ls.....

Great idea, even if not to call out pussy arse bitches its fun to look back and see the way the emotions flow throughout the game. Needs to be a weekly thread after every game neat year.

Nobody should argue that it was a bad decision. However, in college there is a 40 second play clock. That gives the coaches about 15-20 seconds to check the spot of the ball, assess the situation, and make a game altering decision. That leaves them 20-25 seconds to relay the call, get the team set up to run the play and hike the ball....all while complete bedlam is going on around them. Coaches talking in their ear, players running all around them, shouting and talking going on.
It is something akin to this: have you ever heard the term "The game has slowed down." for a player? It is like that with new coaches. The game has to slow down for the coach too. They have to get to the point where they can tune all of that out, and make calls without thinking too much about them. That comes with experience, and it isn't as easy as it looks. Some coaches can make the transition, some never do. We have seen Kirby grow almost every year he has been here. The game is beginning to slow down at a time where we have are reloading and staying in contention no matter what players we lose.
He'll grow (probably) and you will see him make fewer and fewer mistakes, hopefully. Hey, the Cincinnati coach made a huge mistake or two, too. He threw the ball instead of running it. You can argue about that all day long. He could have run the clock down and additional 40-50 seconds....on the other hand, except for one run we stuffed their run al day. he went for the first down and the win and it didn't work out. It happens like that sometimes.

I typically never post in game threads, but I almost always look back at them for this very reason.

Why do people care, or even pay attention to what "everyone predicts"? Betting lines, and predictions about games by talking heads might be interesting to casual fans, but might be the worst thing to happen for fans of a team. We get too heavily invested in what other people think about our favorite teams.
Clemson is in the middle of the greatest run in the history of their program, yet they are melting down hard because of what other people thought or are saying today about their program.

I agree. Who gives a flip about the spread? Who gives a flip about pundits?
If there is a "worry", it should be about one facet of our offense constantly struggling. 2019, we were receiver deficient. 2020, much of the year was QB deficient. In the bowl game, the OL was severely deficient and the QB play suffered because of it.

I actually thought Kirby should have gone for it instead of punting at the end of the game but it was egregious. Today’s game is more aggressive and offensive oriented than it ever has been. That being said, this was their Super Bowl and we were playing a bunch of new guys. Not only were we down 2 starters on the OL, but we shifted a lot of guys around on the line. The whole game Cincinnati was sending blitzes from every possible position and working out of the non-traditional 3-3-5. The OL had their hands full.

Absolutely. Now, on the flip side, we have straightened out the receiver and apparently the QB problem. I will give the OLine deficiency a pass, since we chose to throw the OLine into a hat and play players out of position in an apparent bid to get ready for next season. I think when they have the chance to play together and get used to how they each play we will see our OLine be similar to this year....maybe a tiny bit better.
That's my hope, anyway.

I was leaning that way at the time, too. but, if we had gone for it and not made it, it would have put some serious pressure on the defense and everything would have had to go exactly right for us to win the game.
It might have worked out and it might not have. I'm just glad we won.

It is a gamble.
We went for it against South Carolina and it was a direct reason why we lost in 2019 (they marched 20 yards and kicked a 50 yard field goal).
I expected to go for it. But with our struggles on 3rd down, it definitely seemed in hindsight to be the correct call to punt. The defense was rolling (punt, punt, fumble, punt, punt)

Forgot about that.
And I don’t care about spreads or talking heads, but there was a thread on this board where it was said we would steamroll them and it got numerous upvotes.
For the record, I never said we were going to lose. “This shite” is ambiguous.

Cincy definitely sold out to stop our run game. That and all of our OLinemen playing in new positions. I mean, I get that they probably practiced at all the positions and everything, but it is totally different than when you get in a game and the DLine and lBs start moving around and you have to adjust on the fly in a position you are not totally comfortable with.
Hindsight is always 20/20. I had forgotten about the SCarolina game.

Legitimate point. But, all things created equal, if we had played them with our entire healthy roster we probably would have. Think about it. If Daniels had not thrown that INT in the end zone and Monty Rice had played and been there to stop their long TD run, we would have easily won the game.
If....if....if....we went out and played the cards that were dealt to us and we won. That's what matters most.
