A thread on the main board got me to thinking and trying to remember the worse loss to me emotionally speaking I could remember. There's been some bad ones including the Florida debacle of 15, and the Bama beat down in 08 when my son and I left at half time down 31-0, but the worst one for me personally had to be the 2000 21-10 loss to USCe. Quincy Carter went into that game as a Pre-season Heisman Trophy candidate. He threw 5 interceptions. My ever lasting memory of that game was both he and Donnan sitting on the bench with their head in their hands IN THE 4TH QUARTER. I thought how I had never in my life seen a coach come over to the bench and do that, much less while there was time on the clock. The announcers were pretty much dismayed by it also. I knew both their days were numbered after that, and I knew my enthusiasm for the season was dead and it was only September.

For some reason the most emotionally draining losses that stand out for me were the USCe debacles of 2012 and 2014.

The loss to a garbage SC team in 2014 was bad. The loss to them in 2011 was also bad. If I recall, we scored over 40 but they scored on a fake punt, pick 6, and returned one (or two) fumbles inside our 5 yard line.

Tennessee in 2016.

Went from the highest of mountains, to the bottom of the ocean, all in 5 seconds.

The most shocking loss to me was the 2008 debacle against Alabama. Georgia was pre-season #1 and had everything going for it. Alabama showed up, slapped them in the mouth and Georgia and Richt had no answer.

I got to where I expected a meltdown in Jax and in Columbia. Florida was in the heads of Georgia players as bad as I have ever seen in a ball team. I did not expect a blow out this past year at all. I expected Georgia to struggle and then struggle some more against Florida. Has Georgia turned the corner on that series? Gosh I hope so.

Any Vandy loss

Or

2017 National Championship game. We had them beat. Then we had them out of FG range in OT. 2 and 26....and our DBs have a brain fart

Honestly if the game is close and we lose like we did in that one or the Championship game last year it doesn't bother me that bad. I can at least feel privileged being around to see it. What gets me is when poor effort and poor preparation is trotted out there. There's simply no excuse for that.

At the UCF loss I sat a couple of rows above a probably 12 or 13 year old kid. He had horrific acne and was wearing this extreme poorly made paper knights mask. Like tied around his head with one super skinny elastic frick string. It looked like it was made for a 2nd grade project and had two holes hollowed out so his shitty little eyes could see out. After every play that UCF did something good he would turn and look directly at me. He wasn’t clapping or standing or cheering. I would just feel that stupid flat knight in shining armor turn and be staring directly at me out of the corner of my eye. It was extremely frustrating. I think about that kid a couple times a year.

We lost the 2010 Liberty Bowl to Central Florida 6-10 without ever scoring a touchdown.

On our first possession the offense gashed the UCF defense until Richt's idiotic play-calling left us with a 4th and goal from their 1 yard line. Total pussy Richt elected to kick a field goal and the entire team quit on him.

That game disgusted me even more than the 2001 home game against Auburn when Richt threw away the game by going brain dead in the last 14 seconds.

I’m in the camp of those who are more bothered by the Richt era poor effort and no preparation losses than the last second heartbreakers.

2004, 2006, 2007 UT, 2006 WVU in the Sugar Bowl, 2008 Bama and a bunch of others.

Though...emotionally, the worst loss I can remember was the 1982 Sugar Bowl vs Pitt...I have always hated Dan Marino because of that game, and as a man approaching 50, I am a little ashamed to admit I took some really deep personal joy from the fact he retired without a Super Bowl ring.

Seems petty now, but the emotions of a 10 year old boy are rarely rational.

The 2002 Florida game where Terrence Edwards dropped the touchdown pass. I was there and that one hurt.

There were so many places in that 2002 Cocktail Party where you can see we missed an opportunity or got letdown with untimely penalties, and dumb coaching decisions...Sean Jones TD being called back for Pollack doing a forward lateral. George Foster with the personal foul where he was basically fricking the Gator on the ground...CMR doing typical CMR shite by rotating QB when Greene started 6-6 with a TD...threw his rhythm off and he was never the same the rest of the game...DJ’s pretty dumb pick 6...lot of stuff...

I say all that to say this...live and in all the times I’ve seen the replay...I think it’s speculation at best and just wishful thinking at worst, to assume a TD if Edwards catches that pass. I don’t think it’s responsible to assume TE scores. To put that loss on that dropped pass is not accurate or fair. It’s just the thing most people remember and point to.

But yes...that one sucked...regardless of what you think was the reason we lost.
