George was talented.
MLB talent
NHL talent
NFL talent
He was even the talent behind the Paris Review.

I played high school football. Starter (the guy ahead of me changed schools). For some reason, I never claimed that as a talent. Hmmm. All these years later. Maybe I should claim it. I'm a football talent as well. Just like Catalina.

Quite frankly I barely remember much other than being critical of TC at tackle. I'm pretty sure I was more critical of Wynn than was warranted in hindsight.

ETA
I don't recall your being overly critical at all, and I didn't see evidence of it. I responded to djs with a couple of links, but did not have time to go through more threads. There were threads after almost every game, as you can imagine. Mainly from frustration.

He did deserve some criticism his 1st year. There was definitely a learning curve there but I'd rather have a top flight recruiter and someone who's learning OTJ than a excellent X and 0's guy who can't recruit.

Good point. but I should have taken into account his learning and coaching without his players. Yes, there were mistakes made, but I acted and criticized poorly. I have no problem admitting when I am proven wrong, and the next year convinced me that Kirby deserved more patience.

When were these points made? That’s a detail that matters.

made the argument that we should, be playing Pyke and Catalina in guard and move Wynn and Baker (I think it was) out to tackles, because it would be better to have some players playing their best position than have everyone across the line playing in unnatural, ill fitting places.

*sigh* even though I don't want to go through all of this here are the quotes:
3) I see improvement in the OL from week to week. Perfect? no. We have several playing out of position, but all in all, I feel like we have gotten pretty decent OL play. Spotty, but not bad, either.

Djs...here is a quote from you:
Having to grab a guy from Rhode Island was known way before game 1.
This was discussing problems with the team. Note the reference to Catalina being from Rhode Island therefore not worthy and being a problem?

There was a comment i made specifically mentioniong the other players, but apparently it was in another thread.

Here is the link to one of the threads, though.

LINK

Here is another post talking about them being out of position in another thread:
But where are those 3 lineman projected at in the NFL and where are they playing at this season? Didn't read the link about to go to work, but I think most would agree that some of our OL are playing out of position, like Pyke may be better as a guard, Wynn at LT, etc.

LINK

Here is one instance in which I was arguing the players should be played at their natural positions:
I understand what you are saying, but what would you prefer if you were a coach? Play three of your OL in their natural positions (Which, by the way would probably be C, LG and RG) and have a killer middle to the OL with some suspect at Tackle, or play them out of position and have a suspect OL all the way through?

We probably run the ball up the middle more than most teams. I also understand that you would want a good LT to protect your QB, though.

(Same link as above)

By the way...here is the point Peter was making...and now everybody wants to twist his words into something else:
Our O line is not elite, but from a talent standpoint, has three players that will be in NFL camps next year including one who was projected to be a first round pick pre season and an all SEC and Rimimgton watch center. They have regressed, but also have had good and bad games. This tells me it's more about scheme. The bad games on offense seem to have a common theme of more of their guys than ours in the box.

LINK
He never said Catalina was a NFL LT. (That I saw) he said he was NFL worthy or would be on a NFL team.

What is even more shocking is 3 lineman who played on the 2016 UGA Football team are still in the NFL. 1 was a first round pick and has a super Bowl Ring. At least 2 more on that squad were invited to camps, but there may actually be more. I’m just pulling from the starting rotation that year.

are you insinuating people thought Andrews wasn't a good OL? weird flex but ok

We got Buck white knighting for obscure OL facts and NcDawg that thinks our DL is a bunch of 1*s

The season cant start fast enough

He's insinuating there was talent on that team despite the narrative on this board.

Andrews wasn't on the 2016 team. He's referring to Wynn.

Catalina and Pyke were probably more suited to play guard, but there honestly wasn't anyone behind them on the depth chart who would've fared much better. Plus, having two senior OTs made it easier to sell early playing time to recruits like Andrew Thomas and Isaiah Wilson.

NIFY Sneaky.

While we’re digging through the way back machine...

...:whichever one of you assclowns that gave me 3 pages of shite back in the day for daring to suggest that we should give our then new head coach and staff a full 4 years to rebuild and install their program.... before calling them all no coaching failures ....can suck it.

You know who you are.

It goes the other way, too.

Having no good juniors, sophomores, and freshmen on the bench in 2016 confirms that bad starters will get the reps on Saturday that season.

But talent out of position due to lack of depth really negates the “talent”

None of those links disprove my point. Everyone, including peter, was talking about him as a tackle because that’s the only position he ever played. That nfl talent link was specific about LT. He hasn’t been worthy as a LT since he left Rhode Island, so as much as you want to support poor little peter, he has been wrong about him as a LT the whole time.

I can't believe this shite is still being discussed at this point. Tyler Catalina was one of the 5 best available linemen at UGA in 2016... It's a sad fact, but it's accurate. In hindsight, it would seem that we would have been better served to ignore body types and measurements and stick Wynn at Tackle and move Catalina to Guard and just stick with it... but we didn't.

Thank your lucky stars that Sam Pittman is as good as he is and has put us in a situation where that should never be the case going forward with him on the staff.

At this point, he has no bearing on the future state of this program, so it hardly seems worth trying to figure out who "bickered better"...

Not true... they were running a new scheme and offense. Mike Ridge wasn’t recruiting for or teaching the new offense, so comparability issues were not on him. An argument could be made on the depth aspect, but 5 players good enough to play NFL on a staff is not a #barecupboard. There was a big transition going on that year and the understandable growing pains were the result. Catalina was the poster boy for the people who don’t understand tackle football, as the reason our sportball squad was in such disarray. He is still in the NFL as are two of his fellow lineman from that year. Y’all were wrong. It’s ok, though, we all make mistakes. Y’all just make more of them when discussing tackle football with people who understand the game more than you do. Don’t blame me, Richt, Jim Donnan, or even yourselves in this matter. Emotions sometimes cloud one’s words. Especially when emotions are steeped in period hormones. I can only imagine how hard that would be.

Now run along, go buy you some Catalina dressing and eat you a nice salad. Sporsball season is upon us. We need to look AND feel our best to cheer on them Dawgs.
