Offensive efficiency numbers random thoughts

I have been looking at some offensive numbers and I can’t say how this compares to other schools but our ability to convert TDs from play makers see pretty abysmal to me in the passing game.
Simply our playmakers just don’t score very often.
Brock Bowers only gets a touchdown for every 141 yards he receives.
Marcus Rosemary only gets a touchdown for every 166 yards.
Oscar Delp is one of our most efficient pass catcher scoring a touchdown every 80 yards he receives.
Our team average is 168 yards received per 1 touchdown
We only have 14 passing TDs this year. I am happy to see our run game improving but I really want to see our big play ability to transfer to more passing touchdowns because our passing attack is pretty dangerous everywhere it counts except in scoring touchdowns.
If we upped the efficiency to passing yards per touchdown to 120, we’d have 20 touchdowns

We have issues.
Passing TDs isn't one of them.
We are #1 in conference for rushing TDs.
Do you not see a correlation to rushing TDs and passing TDs?

I think one of the podcast guys said it best yesterday. Paraphrasing: when you are 2 time defending champs and you won the NC game last year like we did, there is a subset of fans that will think the sky is falling if you dont win every game in that same fashion.

Kinda a reciver thread so didn't wanna start a separate thread but whats up with #11 Arian Smith and the drops?
My goodness hes supposedly our over the top speed guy and hes missed/dropped several TD/big passes for us...
We're targeted him at least once early almost every game and hes dropped damn near every one.
Imma sure it's tough to make those catches but it's frustrating to see early big plays not made...

It is because a lot of our passes are caught by design less than 5 yards from the LOS and turn into 8-15 yard gains. Extension of the running game. When we get close, we grind our way in. A lot of our TD runs are under 5 yards. We are really good at first downs and time of possession. Its the Kirdy way. Not as sexy, but proven.

Beck throws a different deep ball than Stetson and JT threw. They would put more air under the ball so the receiver could run under it. Beck throws lower faster balls. They look great when they hit, like MRJS's TD catch against Kentucky. The rest of the time they're too far or off line.

I in no way think the sky is falling….I do strongly wish our down the field passing was better. And so does Kirby as he said so during the game.

Track guys aren't automatically good WRs. Possibly he should be getting balls over the middle or on slants so he can outrun the defense. It seems like his hands aren't positioned right on some of his misses.

He must be making them in practice or he wouldn't still be out there and those plays wouldn't be getting called. Maybe Arian Smith just can't handle being in the spotlight, gives him just enough jitters to not catch the ball that hits his hands.
Or, maybe in practice Carson Beck throws it with less pepper and easier for the grab, but under the lights he puts too much juice on it.
I don't know.
But it's not just A Smith, it's a large amount of wide open long balls missed and/or dropped.

I dunno Rig, imma nowhere an expert. Just seems like every time we have the ball early in 1st qtr one bounces offa his hands 50yds down the center of the field with no real pressure (prolly actually happened a coupla times )
Just a simple fan's WTF is up...

Yep, too many drops.
I don't know what the issue is but receiving is a difficult skill and some players simply don't have good hands/concentration to look the ball into their hands.

Maybe off topic but has anyone watched a lot of Michigan they’re destroying their opponents and their schedule looks pretty strong. UNLV is a good MW team and Bowling Green is very good. Pretty strong team. It’ll all play out I guess once they play Ohio State and Penn State. Making playoffs three season in a row would be a huge accomplishment they may be the scariest team in the country.

Didn't Michigan get called out for the weakest of all schedules?

Yeah I think at first that East Carolina team sucks but UNLV put up 40 on Vandy and beat them by 3. Bowling Green beat Georgia Tech lol. I’m not saying it’s a gauntlet but it’s a lot stronger than initially expected. They’re beating teams like you should expect haven’t allowed more than 10 points I think.
Even with saying all that if we play them I still expect us to beat them like we did last time.

I see your points about unlv, bowling green etc....but dude their schedule is charmin soft. Their incredibly, ridiculously weak schedule is likely the reason they haven't made more serious noise to overtake us for #1. Our schedule the first 4 weeks was as weak as you could possibly imagine and we obviously didn't really look all that great throughout, but mihcigan had no real argument for #1 considering their schedule was just as bad if not worse. IN fact it will be 2 weeks into November before Michigan plays its first team wiht somewhat of a pulse. They only have 2 games all year that they should need to break a sweat in, both of which are in the last 3 weeks of the year.
Michigan is a good team no doubt. But I honestly don't think anyone has the slightest clue of HOW good they actually are because they keep beating up on high school teams. We likely won't haev any idea until that penn state game.

Yeah I get what you are saying and by no means do I think they should ever overtake us for that number one spot as long as we are both undefeated. I think they would be a really good matchup for us but I think our physicality will be too much for them in the end. Would be freaking hilarious if they win out and play an 11-1 Iowa team that beats them for BIG championship. Iowa has one of the worst offenses in the country and I think their OC is Kirk Ferentz son and if he doesn’t average at least 25 points per game with seven wins his contract will be terminated. He’s not going to meet that, and it would be hilarious if he gets fired after going 11-1 with a conference championship.

WR's had to come back to most of Stetson's deep passes. I don't recall too many passes where receivers ran under the ball.

Completions.
WRs sometimes had to come back to some of Stetson's completions.
Throwing too far leads to incompletions.

They had to slow down or adjust, but not “come back”. This is because when the DB was in trail he didn’t have his eyes on the ball and you have a much higher % of catching the ball or getting PI.
