In NC: Lexington Barbecue in Lexington, NC is perhaps the best I've ever had. Like seeing the face of God.

Now back in ATL and still trying to find the good spots. Had Fox Bros once and it was pretty good. I really like Fat Matts but that is mostly because I love blues.

Summertown, TN.
One thing disappointing about Nashville has been the trouble finding good BBQ around here.

Here is a good link if you are looking for places to try. The top places as rated by Atlanta Chefs.

They mention most of the ones in this thread. A couple not mentioned in this thread are Anna's and Grand Champion. I have had GC, its okay.

Tenessee - Central bbq, Memphis

Right on the money Jeff. Great Q, great sauce (save for the hot), great sides. A funky place to boot. Go to the original location on Central Avenue right past the Liberty Bowl.

my grandad & uncle used to take me to Harold's near the federal penitentiary in Atlanta

place was really good

also - I know it is super commercial, but Jim N Nick's does a really nice job with the Q - always consistent

Moe's Original is also worth trying when you are in Bham - the original restaurant in Irondale off I-20 is still there

SC- Hite's BBQ in West Columbia or Scott's in Hemingway.
NC- Lexington BBQ, honorable mention to Green River BBQ in Saluda.
GA- Poole is probably the best that I've had, it's not far from my cabin. When I moved to SC, the BBQ scene around Atlanta was pretty shitty.

Yup. I would say that is the 2nd best BBQ OTP behind Three Brother's in Johns Creek. That BBQ is just so damn good. Again, it's on the pricier side, but absolutely worth it

I'm surprised to see no one mention This Is It in Atlanta. Love that place.

2 others for NE Ga are Hawg Wild in Clarksville, and BBQ shack in Toccoa.

Always thought the place was way overrated.Never impressed with their pulled pork or Brunswick stew.

Cracklin corn bread was good but not worth the trip.

Never went there til the late 90's so maybe ownership/recipes had changed by then.

I always thought they had better sides than meet, which isn't usually a good sign. Mostly I just like live blues.

I like Fresh Air BBQ in Jackson Ga. for their pulled pork and sauce. Never was very fond of their stew though.

Hot take (ITT anyways):

I think KC, Memphis, and Texas has far better BBQ than Georgia and its surrounding states.

LIVE UPDATE:
Stopped for an early lunch at Williamson Bros in Canton today. I got a platter with pulled pork, Brunswick stew, and mac and cheese. The meat had a nice smokiness but was a little dry. Sauce was warm and tasty. Stew had a nice bite to it. It may have been a tad too sweet. Mac and cheese was average.

The search continues.

Has anyone been to Foggy Bottom in Loganville? I drive by it often, but haven't been yet.

There is nothing about BBQ indigenous to Georgia that sticks out as being great or groundbreaking. Like Atlanta, it's a melting pot of a bunch of different areas.

That said, I would take Carolina BBQ over KC and Texas BBQ in a heartbeat, all three of which I've had, and had often. I don't think I've ever had Memphis BBQ, so the jury's out on that one.
