In Huntsville Dreamland has the best ribs but the BBQ is good but not great. For BBQ here I go to the old Greenbriar BBQ on Old Hwy 20 off County Line Road in Madison. Really great BBQ and sauces, and they serve you a bowl of hush puppies that are awesome.

Anyone tried Fat Matts in Atlanta? If so what are your thoughts?
I like Fat Matt's. It's good BBQ, but nothing really stands out. I think it's more known for having decent BBQ and some great music.

You Fox Bros people need to try some other BBQ joints around ATL. It a not even a top 5 and it's not even close
I love, love, love the appetizers at Fox Bros. The pork stuffed jalapeno poppers are amazing. Really like the Texas Fries, Tomminator, and the Lopez are great. It's just the regular BBQ that's nothing special. Good, but not great.

I like their sides but their Q isn't anything special.

Deeprig - been to Fox Bros probably 20 times over the years, it's an awesome atmosphere and food is worth the price, but we are talking about best BBQ, not just really good BBQ. Fox Bros is great for ITP type of atmosphere with really good food.
Honestly, I forgot about Three Brothers in Johns Creek. That is amazing BBQ but pricy. Again, Williams Bros, Dizzy D's and Wyatts are top notch.
Fat Matts is better then Fox Bros, but doesn't touch the others IMO. Good thing about BBQ is that each opinion is their own. It's a combination of quality of meat, type of meat, how it's BBQ'd, the sauces, atmosphere and side dish compliments.

Im not as much of a snob as i used to was, but im still a little picky. Im sure Fox is great, they wouldn't have success if they sucked.
It always comes down to how they compare to my own, which isn't fair, but i can see, feel, taste whether or not there is soul in it.
I haven't been to Fox, but jalapeño poppers speaks to a lack of soul.
Eta I love community, how do they compare to fox?

Randy's in Savannah
Two choices... ribs or chicken.
Then you get a choice of sauce or no sauce ( on the side) [its honey mustard]
To go only, in styrofoam. No seating.
Lunch only, usually sold out by noon with lot full and cars parked on side of road.
Buncha shiny black dudes cooking all the meat on multiple grills and smokers out back.
I alway get the chicken and rib combo and hell yes on the sauce.
It's off that weird ghetto highway shortcut to Tybee right outside of downtown.

Let's be honest here. Anyone can make good pulled pork and vinegar sauce.
Hash is where the talent lies. Harolds set the bar with their hash and cracklin' cornbread. But they're gone now since the Atl crowd decided it was better to have jalapeño poppers and 10 different sauces.
Who makes the best hash? And not that stuff with beans, corn or rice in it...straight up brown Ga hash....the original protein shake...
Carolina BBQ in New Ellington SC is as good as I've found in SC - and they add just a little liver to it I'm told to give it some snap.

To me, Fox Bros. is better than Community Q. Of course that's just my opinion.

Imma with Porter, love Wallace's, Hudson's and I'll add Evan's BBQ in Villa Rica also. More upscale than the BBQ joints I usually frequent, their BBQ egg roll is outstanding. Ran by Michael & Alicia White, he graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in NY, chef at Club 21 in NYC for 9 yrs and Capital City Club in the ATL for 4 years...
Check out their website, good Q but a little outta the norm...

I always end up getting the BBQ/catfish combo plate. Chicken is good too. Slaw is off the chain.
I prefer Old Greenbriar to Big Bob Gibson's, Dreamland, or Whitt's.

Smokey Dreams in Greenville, SC has the best brisket in Dixie.

I went to the famous Big Bob Gibson's once. It was one of the biggest food let downs of my life. Alabama white sauce? No thanks. "Let's put mayonnaise on bbq!"
-Alabamans.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Good stuff. BTW, wasn't there a Georgia BBQ google map we had all put together a couple of years ago? Anyone know what the link is?

Believe it or not some of the best BBQ I've ever had is from Four Rivers Smokehouse in Jacksonville.

I used to go to Gibsons on Bob Wallace because Mamma Gibson was there on the register. She would come sit and chat with us while the food was being prepared. The kitchen staff made sure the plates were full.
I only go to Dreamland for ribs and sweet tea.
If I am in Decatur I'll go to Gibsons there.
