I was spending excellent work time today reading the UGA media guide that just dropped.

UGA media guides

and i noticed that we haven't retired a jersey since Herschel.

If it was up to me no one would ever wear 4 (Champ) or 47 (Pollack) again at UGA.

With players sharing numbers in football these days I don't think you can make the argument that "we'd run out of jerseys if we kept retiring numbers"

Should we retire anymore jerseys? If so, whose?

I wouldn't retire another jersey until a generational player shows out and wins us a natty

Retire Heisman winners or people who do something bigger than football worth being commemorated in that way (Pat Tillman, Chucky Mullins). Pollack would be only other player who comes close as a 3x all American but I think they need to be even greater than that to have their number retired

To be in the discussion, they must win a championship. I expect no less than 7 jerseys retired after this season.

I think you just retire a players specific jersey, not the number. Just the 34 with Walker on the back, not 34 for ever.

That was symbolism from a different era. Hell, Bama would have no jerseys to give out if they did.

College is so much tougher to retire jerseys than the NFL because of how many players are in each team.

As a few others mentioned, it would take a really special player who gets us a Natty to retire another jersey.

Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think Theron Sapp’s number should’ve been retired. When compared to the contributions of Sinkwich, Trippi and Herschel, his seems kind of small.

It would be like us retiring Robert Edwards for breaking Florida’s streak over us in ‘97 or tech retiring Roddy Jones’ number after 2008.

The mods won't ban me like they do you. I expect you will be gone before football season starts. And for those who upvoted for his idiotic idea, I'm here to stay and you know it. What would you goofballs do without my practice reports? So Spunky, go back into the trailer you came out of.

BTW - For those who also downvoted my suggestion to retire Kirby's number - what's up? ya'll think Kirby wasn't a good enough player to warrant it? Shame on you.

I’m not a big fan of jersey retirement in general. I think it’s a much cooler honor to pass jerseys down like LSU does.

If you would've said after the first Coons vs Aints game I'd say you're right.

Idk, maybe read them from the site you C&P them from?

Glad to see others misfortunes are something you find funny.

I can't imagine your husband's embarrassment when y'all are at a football party with his friends and you spout out your opinion like you know wtf you're talking about.

If you'd like, I'll start a thread about making sandwiches and getting stains out of delicate fabrics. That way you wont have to Google topics to find your opinions.

can you point to literally ANYTHING about his resume as a player that would suggest being so special and above the rest that the number should never be worn again?

I dont need Google. I know my fair share. He was a good player at his position. That's why I suggested it but like everyone here, it is our own opinions and as always, not everyone agrees with them.

And I hope you dont speak and treat all women like your comments stated because no woman would put up with that shite. Quit being childish and grow up - Its fricking football for pete's sake.

He was my favorite player while I was in college.

Maybe retire his number after his 3rd NC as a coach. :)

Agree. IIRC, we lost out on getting Ernie Simms because we wouldn't let him wear #34. FSU also had #34 retired, but they gave it to him after asking Ron Sellers if he was OK with it.

If we win the NC under Kirby Smart, I'd consider that. But, although he was a very good DB, retiring a number should be for an exceptional player that led us to an NC.
PS: no downvote from me.

Not particularly. He was a better than average college player, or maybe even good college player for the position he played. He did lead the SEC in INTs his SR. season, and was first team All SEC.

That's all I got. Without Google.
