Love both Fromm and Fields but I'm thinking Fields maybe be our Tua for 2019. Thoughts?

I think Fields will win the job in camp next year. He's too talented not to. Fromm has generally been very good but the physical ability that Fields possesses does not come around very often.

ETA: In this era of college football QB transfers, I think only one of them will be on the roster on opening day next season. If a QB thinks he has pro ability, he isn't going to ride the pine for the benefit of the team anymore. He's going to go somewhere where he can play and put stuff on tape for pro scouts.

I think he has a great chance to be our starter week 1 vs Vandy, the sky is the limit for the young man.

I think Fields will be the 2019 starter also. Even though Fromm has a great football mind I don't think that he has enough raw athleticism to take us all the way.

If Jake proves me wrong by orchestrating a victory over Alabama and follows that up great playoff games I'll celebrate and expect another year of Jake from State Fromm as starter.

I hope that we can hang on to, and play, both guys. They might be rare high character guys who would willingly share the load and support each other.

Fields and Tua are r very similar. Tua is a pure passer worn scrambling ability. Fields is a true dual threat. That said, Fields is still a primarily one read QB where as Fromm and Tua are multi read. Once Fields gets more comfortable in the pocket the sky is the limit.

I was worried Fields would end up transferring also. But then I realized that it wouldn’t benefit him. If fields leaves then he will have to sit out a year whereas even if he didn’t start for us next year he would still get significant playing time. Then the following year Fromm would be gone and Fields would be the starter. So he ends up waiting the same amount of time to play full time in both scenarios, so why transfer?

Damn, I must have upset the Fromm supporters by asking about this. Haven't hopped on the Fields train yet guys. Playing against UMASS versus an SEC team is a different ballgame. Guess we will all see next year.

You mean because he did good against that stellar competition UMass?

I was just glad to finally see him throw the ball more than 5 to 10 yards.

Did we not go all the way last year?

We have 2 very talented QBs. One has more experience than the other. Why does it have to be anything other than that?

...Perhaps all of these Justin Fields threads become sort of a buzzkill after a while... we are a 17 point favorite this week against Tech and next week is the SECCG. This is when it's supposed to be the most fun to be a fan.

Dawg fans have the entire god awful off-season to talk about Justin Fields and quarterback competitions and transfer situations. But right now it is just frigging extremely aggravating and troll-like.

It has to be more than that because experience isn't the only variable.

Fields has much more potential than Tua. He's taller, faster, heavier, stronger body, stronger arm. Mental ability and determination are yet to be known.

Tua gets a lot of buzz right now, but his physical skill set is nothing special. He may be an all-time great at Alabama, but I'm not sure that would be the case in a league with more evenly distributed talent.

I think under the newest transfer rules, that he wont have to sit it out. I could be wrong on that....

He's mobile, has a strong arm, is extremely accurate, and sees the field well. Those skills would translate anywhere

He would have to sit out a year unless he graduated from he university.

They would, yes, but he also has time in the pocket with that Bama OL and he often has open targets who can easily bail out errant passes with those Bama receivers. He benefits greatly from his supporting cast and there are a few QBs out there that would likely play just as well in that offense.

Talented players look legendary at Alabama due to the synergy that the rest of the team provides.

Tua is the best CFB quarterback we have seen in a long time.

He looks very likely to be a multiple national title winning, multiple heisman winning, top 3 draft pick. Will likely go down as the best QB in Alabama history...
