Screw it. I’m going to bed. 5 hours later and we can’t count the votes. We have to be one of the only east coast elections still not called, right?

Had polling places open until 10 and 11pm I believe... The entire system in Georgia is a joke... Paper ballots > Electronic machines... Some states have gone 100% mail in ballot and the numbers simply don't prove out that there is rampant voter fraud. (“Oregon has mailed-out more than 100 million ballots since 2000, with about a dozen cases of proven fraud.” That’s a 0.00000012 percent rate of fraud.) Unsurprisingly, these states have minimal issues with getting the votes counted and reported in a prompt fashion.

Regardless your political leanings, I just don't see where there is a legitimate problem with this method.

One interesting thing I learned today was that there are a lot more people in Cherokee County than I had previously imagined. 100k+ voters... Had no idea.

Yep this is an eye opener to me as to where our state is headed. I could see a Democrat posing as a moderate going in as Governor , but the fact that we almost put a dyed in the wool socialist in is disturbing. I was hoping the poll numbers were skewed and Kemp would go in by over 55%.

You also have to consider that the governor race was during a mid-term election with a Republican in the WH. Generally mid-terms favor the party not in power in terms of turnout. I'm curious how well she would have done in 2016 or in 2020.

I'm literally SHOCKED that anyone is surprised at this. Has no one been paying attention to the demographic shift in this state? It helps Abrams that she's both black AND a woman, but this isn't getting any better, moving forward. I said years ago that the GOP needed to find a way to bring Hispanics into the fold or they would eventually lose every state in the south. This hasn't changed. And instead, we've done everything possible to alienate ourselves from every demographic save old, white men. Newsflash: They are dying off.

The state, as we've known it, is going away. Same is really true for the entire country.

The percentage of AA's hasn't changed much at all in the last 10 years...still at 30% to 31% even though hispanic demos certainly have.AA's just showed up more to vote for an AA candidate. She also won with significant margins with(mostly) white suburban females.

Hispanics and white women, my man. The point stands and it's what you're seeing. Birthright citizenship becoming an issue in the last few days also woke up many of those hispanics.

Yeah, in retrospect I was way too gratuitous with “Socialist.”

Ya this race makes me a little uneasy as where we are headed....of course Abrams won the major metro areas...which isn't surprising, but I think what we are seeing is a turn in the state.

The 2020 election could get very interesting.

The only place where the map is turning is central GA. Lots of very close counties there. Burke, Baldwin, Washington, Peach.

If Democrats make a big move on that band, Republicans are fooked.

Dems would have won if they played Evans instead of Abrams. Ballsy move to go black and woman in a historically conservative state.

Cobb county the last two elections? It was once a Republican stronghold. The map is changing. Slowly, but surely. I don’t think my kids and grandkids are going to benefit by staying in Georgia over the next 30 years or so.

I'm just glad Hall stayed steadfast. 73+% Kemp, which is exactly what it did for Trump in '16

Both sides of my family have been in GA since the early 1800s. I never thought I would want to leave but I’ve gotten to that point. The only problem is my wife isn’t in agreement.

I think its the typical ebb and flow of politics. I remember saying "our country is changing" when Clinton got elected.

Or when Obama got elected and Dems had all the power. But what happened. It corrected itself. So much so Trump who is the most polarizing candidate ever where even MANY republicans didnt/dont like him won over a HEAVILY favored candidate.

Mid terms are always like this when one party has all three branches. There is a chin check.

Fact is this. For the next two years Conservatives have 2 of the 3 branches of the government and half of the other one.
The most important one where Judicial appts etc are made.

As for the Gov election no different than Beto in Texas. You had an appealing candidate (to some) who had MILLIONS in outside dollars pouring in. An energized base who HATES Trump.
Tack on Kemp who is lets be honest not your most ideal candidate with his crazy commercials pointing guns at kids etc.

Until there is a shift to the center for both sides we will have these wild swings in mindterms..

I was born and Raised in Louisiana. So I was not born or raised here but I got here as fast as I could. I am never leaving Georgia.... This is home and always will be.

That's where we are, for now. All of my immediate family has passed with the exception of my sister, and she can fend for herself.

My wife still has her parents here and until they're gone, we're locked in. After that, she's fine moving. We were planning to go to Florida, but I think the south as a whole will eventually be overrun. Going north may end up the better option. Jackson Hole sounds like a good plan, actually.....

I think you're right on a lot of points, but the fact remains that whites will be the minority rather soon and that will not correct itself as more and more white women are choosing not to have kids (or as many, as soon), and instead pursue careers. Even that bastion of upper-class whitedom that you call home, Oconee county, isn't going to be safe forever.
