Most state chamionships across the country are played in either P5 or pro stadiums...it's a much better idea and gives fan a chance to see multiple games over the course of 2 days. It's also much better with multiple classifications to spread out games as opposed to have
them all played at the same time on Friday and Saturday nights

Central’s gotta get its act back together and T’ville also to a lesser extent. There are too many athletes there to be perennial one and done or two and done playoff teams.

There are two bottom line reasons I don't want the games played on campuses:

-I don't like giving a team home field advantage in a championship game unless it's a sport (or level of a sport) where a series is played. If it's a one game championship, no team should get an arbitrary coin flip home field advantage.

-Its an opportunity to put the game on the grandest stage possible. Seeing teams you've grown up watching actually play in a college/pro venue just adds to the championship atmosphere to me and I know for a fact from talking to former players who got to play in those games that getting to "play in the Dome/Benz" is something they remember for the rest of their lives.

I understand that it's farther from some schools than it is for others, but to me the positives far outweigh any negatives.

Exactly.

Big shout out to the Heard County Crew! Cool backstory with that coaching staff. Proud to know them.

Yes first one.

A bunch of playoff appearances in his long tenure there and they made it as deep as the Semis but never made it to game 15 and won it.

How do you know Timbo? I have known him since we were about 10 playing pound ball together. He ended up going to Pebblebrook and I was at Mceachern. We are in Bremen and Heard was one of losses this year but was very happy they won it once we got bounced by Rockmart in the quarters.

Okay. I was the the 8th grade HC at McEachern for a long time. Timbo was at Alexander when I was coaching back then. He was a very good player and athlete when we were growing up. We were Powder Spring Cowboys!

Ohio is unique. The state championships aren't played at OSU or in Cleveland/Cincinnati, but in Canton at the Hall of Fame. It's a really cool experience for the players

Are you from down here, by chance?

TCC went in a new direction in 2018. They fired long time coach Bill Shaver, who replaced Ed Pilcher in 2008, and they have transitioned from running the split-back Veer to running the spread/read option as their base offense. After running that Veer for 27 years, it's gonna take some time, because they have no offensive linemen that can pass block effectively. Pilcher won 169 games and 5 titles at TCC. Shaver was mediocre and didn't win much of anything. Two region titles in 10 years, and often one or two rounds in the playoffs. We'll see if TCC can improve in year 2 of running the Spread.

As for Thomasville, Zach Grage is from the Propst coaching tree. When I say that, I mean he's already had a couple of scandals, as in sketchy player transfers and most recently, he has been accused of using IV therapy on players without a medical professional being present or without parental consent.

Word on the HS boards is that he's just trying to cover his arse and blame the white hat for the loss.

But, who knows? Maybe he was given the wrong instructions....Only the coaches on the sideline know for sure, but it sure looked like, from the way his assistant acted after he declined the penalty, that he effed up.

So you know the "Secret of the Indian"?

We've probably been on opposite sidelines a time or two.

Of course.

Funny story about the Indian. My senior year, we opened against Sprayberry at home. About 1am that morning, a group of my friends took bedsheets and made a vest jersey with my # on the front and back(used spray paint) and my last name on the back. They took ladders and somehow climbed on the pedestal and used bricks to sling the ropes over the shoulders. They didn’t tell me.

My buddy and I were driving down New Macland rd and about to turn into school when I saw it. Of course, I was thinking “he’ll yeah!”

I got pulled out of first period and summoned to the principals office for an interrogation. They wanted to know if I had any part in it or if I knew who did it. At that time, I really didn’t know and didn’t find out until later in the day. The admins were upset because the grounds workers were going to have to be next to power lines to get the thing off. They waffles around all day trying to safely get it off.

They finally did get it off using a bucket truck while we were in pre game warmups. The crowd booed when they did. It is a fond memory.
