And it's not like almost every state in South has moved
their state chamionships to to big college or pro stadiums.

I usually go to a couple every year. Love it. I've never understood the gripes. It's a great experience to watch a game in, especially when your team's in it (which I've only gotten to see once).

Not had many experiences with them in quiet a while. They are pretty much the same as every other organization out there. They aren’t the worst organization out there though.

If I had to rank them I’d say they are middle of he pack. Not the worst, they called a phantom hold on us one year and it cost us a game. Watched the film and it was one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen.

Funny thing about the playoffs now, officiating is getting worse in comparison to 20 years ago but lately in the playoffs they call much less stuff. It’s like they try to disappear from the games at times. I’m fine with this practice because the they are more consistent not calling stuff than calling what they “see”.

Anybody see that terrible targeting call in the Colquit/Milton game?

This is what I’m talking about.

Of course, WRHS coach says ref told him on sideline on the roughing the kicker call that it was running into the kicker and wouldn’t be an automatic first down. So he kept the made field goal instead of getting first and goal.

Wow

Yeah the targeting call against Colquitt was atrocious, idk what the ref saw there to warrant that flag. They ended up blocking that fg though so they got out of there alright. Pretty good game so far.

But the white hat announced over the loud speakers it was a “personal foul, roughing the kicker” which is an automatic first down.

That’s sort of irrelevant if he’s got a referee assuring him that it will not be a first down. Coach shouldn’t have to listen to loudspeakers to make sure he knows what call is what. At Any level of football, if needed, the ref explains what would happen if a Penalty is accepted to declined and Chastain got bad info in a huge moment of the game.

If what he’s saying is truly what happened then the ref affirmed it wouldn’t be a first down twice before he decided to decline.

It has still happened plenty of times where PF roughing isn’t an automatic first down.

They just missed a clear pass interference by Milton when CC had it 3rd and goal. Lol. Sketchy officiating for parts of this game

Lots to that one. Why Colquitt went away from the running game is baffling. Their quarterback was clearly not comfortable and the two CC backs were gashing Milton.

The blocked field goal at the end of the half was basically the difference. Crazy ending.

Good two days of football in the Benz though. A few really great games

Well Eagles Landing ONLY won 44-17 this time against Athens Academy to win their 4th consecutive State Title and 5th in 6 years.

It wouldnt be so bad if other teams would actually compete with them and maybe lose a game here and there. Like Bama nothing wrong with being dominant. But when you win your playoff games by an average of 5 TDs and no other school even has a chance to compete?
At some point it may be time to move to a new Division?

I was pulling for AA. They were up 10-0 at half and only down 20-17 early in the 4th. I thought they might pull it off.

Understand what you are saying, but classifications are made up based on Average daily Attendance. A school can move up a classification, though.

The reason they split the Class A up is because private schools can offer a better education, as a whole, and to attract the better athletes can then offer scholarships giving them an unfair advantage. many of these private schools are still fairly small, so they would not be allowed to move to the regular class A...they would have to move to Class AA, and the enrollments would be decidedly unbalanced making it very tough for the private school to compete. They are, in essence caught between a rock and a hard place.

And there are no guarantees how long they would be able to attract the good athletes. I mean, I get what you are saying, and it seems like there could be a better solution to it.

Don't get me wrong...there are some bigger private schools out there, and they do compete in higher classifications. Marist, Westminster, Woodward Academy, Aquinas, Pace, benedictine to name a few, but those are much bigger schools with tons of resources that far exceed ELCA. ELCA is still a relatively small school and do not have the huge tuitions associated with many of the schools I just mentioned.

A conspiracy to fill up the money vaults at the GHSA more than anything else. They don't care about the students...finals were this week for most of them, by the way, and they were playing football games on a Tues, and Wed. night in Atlanta.

Attendance for most of these games was terrible. It's good that the players enjoyed their trip to MB....Just a shame that they had to do it with such sparse attendance. The GHSA really should have had a contingency plan for the soccer finals being played there.

Attendance was down at a lot of playoff games this year. I went to two yesterday and I thought there were a lot of people there. It obviously looks sparse in a 70,000-seat building, but put those same numbers in a high school stadium and it would've been completely packed.

Back when Thomas County was rolling in AAA, the wife and I used to go to the semis when they were in the Dome. Great days, man....Twenty bucks a ticket, and you saw four games back when there were only 4 classes. I have witnessed some great moments and great players. I have seen 5 state championship games played at Thomas County. I wish these games were still played on campus.
