After talking to locals yesterday, it seems much is still up for decision on the new stadium (currently owned by city).

One thing is apparent, a Truist Park style development wouldn’t work given the huge homeless issues, nearby prison, and lack of any desire of folks to live in that area.

They need to develop a good restaurant/shopping complex to lure visitors other than on game days. Some really good restaurants on the water with good lighting and security and a couple of mid-priced hotels/motels.

Downtown Jacksonville is an absolute shithole and it has a bad, bad homeless problem. They need to get that cleaned up quickly.

Good luck with that. They just recently elected a democrat-Bolshevik mayor in Jax

If we’re going to keep ruining this sport and turn it into mini nfl with nil and 12 team gimp offs, then I dare anyone to oppose Coach Smart on this subject

TWLOCP was for another time and place. I’m sorry. I loved it too. But. If it’s mini nfl time, then bring that game back to campus

ESPN article about WLOCP

quote:

Don't expect Georgia and Florida to play their annual rivalry game on campus sites anytime soon, if ever again.

quote:

The SEC heavyweights are exploring options to hold the game often referred to "The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party" at other neutral-site venues during the two years that Jacksonville is expecting a $2 billion renovation to EverBank Stadium and the surrounding area.

quote:

Although they haven't completely ruled out playing a home-and-home series in 2026 and 2027, administrators are focused on letting cities with NFL-ready stadiums bid on the game, according to two people familiar with the planning. The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the process hasn't been formalized or finalized.

Great link. Thanks

quote:

In 2026, with Georgia scheduled to be the home team, the game likely would land at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, with a 50-50 ticket split as usual. The following year, with Florida as the home team, it could end up at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Raymond James Stadium in Tampa or Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

I took the part you quoted as pure speculation by the writer as to where it could be played those 2 years.

It is interesting that the article says that UF makes more money by having that game at Jacksonville than a home game. But after I re-read the article I think he is saying that, because they make money every year, they don't lose income on the "away" year.

quote:

A Florida home game, by comparison, generates between $2 million and $5 million depending on the opponent

Any one have any idea how much a "good" opponent game generates in Athens?

Home games generate revenue but also a shite ton of expenses. Much of the net gain goes to the city not the school or AA.

All the Jax expenses are on them (minus travel, etc).

With the prison 2 blocks away, homeless issues, crime…no way any investor wants to put up private housing or restaurants that need daily patronizing.

Per the article, UGA receives a stipend to cover some of the travel/lodging.
quote:

Georgia also receives $350,000 annually to cover its charter flights, buses and lodging, while Florida receives $60,000 because no flights are required.

It also affects our ability to play home/away games with good teams.

They will never be able to clean it up. Florida has the same "nice weather" problem that Cali has.

If you ain't got home then you are going to go where it warm year round. I promise you Wyoming has damn near zero homeless people issues.

I noticed that both ESPN and CBS didn't treat the WLOCP moniker with kid gloves like they have in the past. I approve.

They can GTFOH with that "War for the Oar" nonsense. They should play for an etched pony keg.

During most parts of the year, true, but during the summer, they get a fair number of actual hobos hopping the trains.

It get cold af in Oregon and they definitely have homeless issues. Same w Chicago and New York.

I see it more and more across all towns in US. More mental illness and more pills plus higher cost of living and fewer options for these folks with the reduction in treatment facilities.

Alain a four seasons is being built on the river across the street. They won’t build it until that jail is gone.

Landings has been grass for a while and they moved the courthouse.

The only way to resolve a homeless issue like that is to police it out and they aren’t gonna do that.

Sulzbacher ( the homeless organization behind the jail) will be forced to move as well. The new jail is going to be built beside the pea farm by the memorial cemetery.

We went to the game back in 2018. I had not been since 1992. We staid at Amelia Island which was great. The day before and day of the game we kept talking to more and more people that were bailing on the game and staying at the Ritz resort to watch with the game party they were having. We got down to Jax early. We expected to find some bar area in downtown to hang out and eat lunch but with the Landing gone there's basically nothing. The only "scene" was the tailgate and RV park around the stadium. We drove around downtown Jax a bit and as others said it was a dump and homeless people everywhere. I imagine the city of Jax will do everything they can to keep them game. It's definitely a huge economic boost to the entire Jax and Golden Isles. As far as tradition, it seems like a lot of SEC tradition is going to the wayside anyways with the conference re-alignment. I don't see what is so bad about the Ga-Fl game being played in Athens every other year. Now that would be a huge boost to the Athens economy. Still a lot of people like the game down there.

I live in Yulee. I work in Jax. The homeless population is def getting worse but Shahid Khan ( the billionaire owner of the Jaguars) is going to run them off of the river. There are a lot of sports bars like gators dockside here in Nassau. On the way to the stadium. River City has Bostons. As a Savannah boy living in Fla., I have developed hookups with the city to get as many tix and parking passes I want so I have a vested interest in keeping it there.
