32 pitches for Ben Harris when he didnt even need to come in the game. Now he is done until probably Saturday(dreaming). Thanks Scott.

You realize that he is treating this game as a do or die for the NCAA tournament right? And a win today gets us into double elimination portion of the SECT

Which is why it's a bit head scratching to pull woods who was absolutely cruising and didn't give up a hit.

Then why do you take Woods out after 48 pitches when he was cruising? No hits. No walks. Sounds like he is looking past this game to use Woods later on this week, otherwise wouldnt he have kept Woods in the game?
We were up by 3 in the top of the 8th with no sign of LSU doing anything.
Also, if we are really going all out for this game, why do we have a 1B in RF and a 3B at 1st in the 8th inning? Whys is there not a defensive substitution?
If we are going all out for this game, why just bring in our best pitcher? Why not make sure the defense is the absolute best since we have to win this game?

Jesus Christ. We just put Gowen on the mound.

Jesus Christ. Gowen went 1-2-3 and the Dawgs have won in Hoover!
4-1 Dawgs over LSU
4-1 Dawgs over LSU

Damn you Stricklin!!! You just solidified our spot in the NCAAs
First time since 2005 and only the 4th in 35 years that LSU has 1 and done Hoover

I’m already damned near bald… that top of the 8th pretty much made me lose the rest of my hair.
Congrats Dawgs! Now you get to play the #1 seed. No good deed goes unpunished

Fellas, this team may have just bumblefricked its way into a regional. Can’t understate how big a deal that is for the sake of experience and program prestige in recruiting.
And questionable as Stricklin’s pitching moves were tonight, we could conceivably pitch any of the guys we threw today in a couple of days (Woods was at 40+, Harris at 30+)

Good news is we have faced Arkansas before. They’re also not going to be going full tilt; DVH always sandbags Hoover

All that matters is WIN the next game.
GO DAWGS!!

Rooting for Auburn here. Just thinking about potentially facing them on Thursday as opposed to Ole Miss

So now it’s double elimination right? It’s always the first round that’s single elimination?

Semifinals and championship are also single elimination

If we can score one more win against Ole Miss or Arkansas, we will be in excellent shape. Also helps to win in these tournament stages for a young team, just to build their confidence that they can do it for future seasons.

Sounds like Liam Sullivan will get the start tonight

Makes sense. He was dealing against Arkansas last time we played them. He threw on Friday though, so guessing we will be watching his pitch count closely...
This is a tough decision for Stricklin. Coulda saved Sullivan for 1 more day and put him in elimination game against Vandy/OM or pitch him against Arkansas who he pitched well against.
I think its a good choice. Let's go out and try to get a big W against Arkansas who will likely be trying to save arms for later in the tournament

Yeah it’s one less day rest but I think your alternative is Goldstein and another staff game. So on the one hand, I think it’s an aggressive move and uses a pitcher who didn’t back down against their lineup last time they played. On the other, I’m not sure we have a legitimate second option that doesn’t screw us for Thursday as bullpen arms go. I’d assume we will see Cannon start the second game and you could maybe bring Harris/Woods back for any games beyond that if we are still in it
ETA: Really need 4-5 reliable starters for tournament play and without Webb and Smith we are just running in fumes and adrenaline
