Truth be told, if Kirby wants to stop having problems with QB's that can run, he needs to take a page from Pruitt's book on this one.
We didn't do well against mobile QBs this year. Anyone who thinks Watson wouldn't have done the same thing to us is kidding themselves.

No doubt. The point I was trying to make is you have a better chance of slowing down a guy like that if you have a faster, more athletic linebacker. The Rashaan Evans example is a good one.

Better chance at Wilson. Gotta see how his OV goes. It would really help to flip Jeawon Taylor, and I think that's doable.
Sounds like a plan

Roquan Smith says Wazzup to Kirby then...

Davis is going to Alabama. 99.9% chance.
Agreed. Something monumental is going to have to happen to eventually pull him our of AL. But then I think "monumental" doesn't necessarily have to be Saban leaving; could be something like managing to pull Wilson and others, turning this class into the place to be for top flight defensive recruits. Not likely at this point, but not impossible either; if anyone knows how to play the recruiting game and turn goat piss into gasoline, it's Kirby.

I still don't understand why Leonard Floyd wasn't used in a similar capacity during his time in Athens. He has the speed to contain pretty much any QB - why wouldn't we use him to spy? Less effective pass rush but neutralize QB scrambles. A worthy tradeoff against guys like Treon and Dobbs.

Would be surprised if this isn't what ends up happening with Roquan. And maybe it's because I've just always liked the kid, but I really hope Johnny O'Neal finds a renewed spot on the team given his size at LB. He quietly had a really solid year on the kickoff coverage teams

IIRC, that's basically what we used him as when we played Auburn last year with Nick Marshall

And they couldn't get anything going offensively in that game. Oh well. I'm sure it isn't as simple as I am making it out to be. Just hard to get past the frustration of getting shredded by mobile QBs when we supposedly had one of the best LB groups in the country.

Spies are overrated imo. For a really fast QB, you almost have to have a DB do it. Too much space for a LB to be expect to make a play by himself. It also weakens the rest of your defense similar to how a box and 1 does in basketball.
IMO, you're better off focusing on being disciplined in your pass rush to contain the pocket.

Floyd played star against Auburn. Took away the jet sweep and quick screen game for the most part.

The potential is there for us to land 6 prospects who are rated as composite 5 star athletes. That would put as only 3rd program in the modern era of recruiting to do so, joining Bama and SoCal. That's ridiculous and doesn't even include other top 100 prospects like Cleveland, Manac, Price, and Warrior that we either have committed or stand a good/decent chance of landing. Eason and Nauta are on campus already, at the moment I think we'll land Hardman and Robinson, and I think that between Burns, Brown, and Wilson we will reel in at least 1 and possibly 2. Have to thank Richt and Co for laying the ground work but Kirby has a chance to knock this one out of the damn park.

Being a UGA fan and watching us swing and miss at instate prospects year after year I am trying not to get my hopes up. If we landed just half of that group I would be happy.

I'm with PBF. It's going to take some success to chance the mindset.

Saban is using his in-home with Hardman today. Interesting strategy. Pruitt going with him. Tucker also visiting Hardman today. Wonder if they're going to pull the Bama press and tell him commit now or lose your spot (absurd to think given Hardman's talent but then it is Bama and they can actually afford to pull that maneuver).

If that's the case Hardman won't budge. He is loving the recruiting life

Or he may see it as a sign that they are recruiting him harder. These guys love attention.

Even if he did commit...he is a recruit and can change his mind on NSD. I think the "commit now or lose your spot" isn't a good tactic anymore since the stigma associated with de-commitments has subsided. Not to say that ploy doesn't work well when it's bama.

I think there is a really good chance of flipping David Marshall, Auburn Commit. He told the AJC that we have been showing him more love lately than Auburn.
