Agree with 2nd your statement. Who was the 2nd and 3rd best player on those teams. Far far from Stars.

Indeed. Some of the most impressive performances we've ever seen.

The 03 Spurs and 11 Mavs weren't supposed to win it all. Those supporting casts surprised/gelled in almost storybook fashion at just the right time.

Hakeem in 94 playoffs
29 ppg
11 rpg
4 apg
4 bpg
52% from the field
He went through Barkley, Malone, & Ewing that year. The next he went through Malone, Barkley, Robinson, & Shaq. A real who’s who of bigs in the NBA at the time and all time.

Create an all-time starting 5 from Texas players only (Rox, Spurs, & Mavs Players)
5 Dream
4 Duncan
3 Dirk (too big?)
2 Harden
1 Nash
Bench
Parker
Manu
TMac
Robinson
Drexler
Not counting
Barkley
Pippen
Kidd
and guys who didn't play long enough or were way past their prime.

Let’s be honest Dirk was drastically overrated

I’d probably include Rolando Blackmon in the bench group. Aguirre was really good too but I think most remember him as a Piston.

Don't say stupid shite lest you wanna get popped in the mouth. Dirk is a top 20 player at worst all time. Dude changed the game and he carried a bunch of pretty good but never great players for almost his entire career.
Wanna know how many guys made the All Star game when they were his teammates? Just four. Micheal Finley in '00-'01, Steve Nash in '02-'03, Josh Howard in '07 as an injury replacement, and Jason Kidd in '10 as an injury replacement who was only picked last minute b/c of an ice storm making it hard for anyone else to get to Dallas.
Cuban was almost never able to get any continuity for the Mavs and was always shuffling the deck; early on trying to get guys via trade by taking on massively overpaid guys like Juwan Hoawrd and Keith Van Horn and in later years trying to create cap space via one year deals only to always end up the bridesmaid in pursuit of free agents. In his 21 years Dirk had 197 teammates. The two times Cuban left the core alone for the most part they made the finals. Cuban letting Nash go for nothing right before hand checking got banned b/c he thought Steve's back was going to disintegrate and then breaking up the '11 team to chase free agents like Dwight Howard and Deron Williams will go down as some of the worst owner interference moves ever. The teammates who played the most games with Dirk over his career? Jason Terry, Devin Harris, and JJ Barea.
Also, people seem to think the 2011 Mavs weren't a beast of a team. Everyone forgets they were on pace to win 60+ before Dirk and Caron Butler went down with injuries in the middle of the season. Even with losing Dirk for a stretch and Butler for the year they won 57 games. That team was probably the perfect combo of players to put around Dirk and Cuban decided to break it up like a damn fool b/c he thought he could lure Dwight. So he dumped Tyson, brought in Lamar Odom who proceeded to melt down, and completely wasted Dirk's back end.

Maybe I'm just an old fart but the Iceman has to be on the list somewhere, 12x all star and 4x scoring champ.

Should have put him as one of my honorable mentions. That's my recency bias biting me in the arse.
Actually, you know what? frick Kawhi on my list. Give that spot to Iceman.

He's from Nigeria. He only comes to Houston for business and lives abroad.
quote:
Duncan
Virgin Islands. But he has lived in San Antonio ever since being drafted, so there's that, I guess.
quote:
Dirk
"Zee" German. Will probably be moving back to Germany soon.
quote:
Harden
Los Angeles. He won't live here after his career is done. I guarantee that.
quote:
Nash
This one is Canadian. I don't even think he knows what an HEB is.

Like TxWadingFool said, Tim's pretty puro San Anto at this point. SA has kind of a rep for growing on Spurs players though, even after they're no longer playing for the Spurs. Danny Green and Tony Parker are both maintaining homes here. David Robinson and George Gervin as well are always about town (people forget Iceman is from Michigan originally).

Yeah I always considered San Antonio to be like a bad viral STD too. You can try a lot of things, but you just can't shake it off .
