Regardless of whether we make the playoffs, this season could be our best since 1956.
I love these guys and what they've been able to accomplish in a weird season, but give me the 2012 team over 2020. Better best win, better overall resume in my opinion. And better stars capable of playing/beating the best teams in the nation.
If we make the playoffs and compete well with whoever we play, then we can talk about this being one of the best in program history.

This is a more complete team but lacks a game changing talent like Manziel. It’s an interesting debate for sure. I think I’d take the end of year 2012 team with Manziel fully unleashed but it’s close.

If we finish 9-1 (8-1) with a top 3/4 ranking, it will arguably be our best season since 1939. On paper, the ranking alone should be enough, but then you throw in an Orange Bowl win along with 8 SEC wins and it really stands out.
I also think the 2012 teams would beat the 2020 team. Both yers were pretty strange. By the end of 2012, I think we were the best team in the country.

I won't disregard the final AP rank but preseason polling has an effect on where you finish and starting unranked in 2012 makes the top 5 finish as impressive as starting Top 10 and finishing top 4.

We were only second to Georgia as far as 2 loss teams go. I don’t think preseason bias had too much of an effect.

I actually disagree. Manziel tore up Bama's defense, but struggled against LSU's. That's the kind of D we have right now. Yeah, he might get loose for a play or two (like Nix's houdini act this year), but by and large, they're shutting down the foolishness.
The '12 defense was stout, but the '20 Maroon Goons + Spiller are a match with them. Good Mond shows up, that's a wrap, IMO.
That's what makes this '20 team so tough--they're just very balanced. Tough to rattle.

The final version of 2012 would eat this team alive. They were embarrassing everyone they stepped on the field with from midpoint on.

The 2012 team was paper thin in terms of depth. This was evident in the Louisiana Tech game, where the 2013 defense showed up.
Only ONE combined game was missed between all starters due to injury. The other three combined games missed were due to suspension.

The offense was amazing, but the depth nonexistent. It'd be a great matchup. Ultimately the defense would tell the tale. Remember they almost gave up that Bama game.

If only we had a kicker that year.

But the defense ended with the pick.
Alabama averaged 39 a game that year. Only Lsu held them to fewer points (21 vs 24).
Let's not sell the 2012 defense short. It was 26th (2020 is 30th) in scoring D even though the offense was up-tempo and gave the other team more possessions.

Hearing the @bigten could be very close to changing its mandatory sit-out time for a Covid-19 positive test from 21 days down to 17 days, barring of course any further complications. FYI FWIW

They are getting into BDF territory with catering to one program.

I agree with this because it was such a stupid rule to begin with. However, they very obviously doing it for the wrong reasons. It’s complete bullshite.

A play or two? Nah. JFF w/Evans, Nwachukwu, and Swope would shred our secondary and the moment they backed off he'd pop a 30 yard run.
Mond would have to play lights out for this year's team to even have a chance at beating 2012. Our current offense leaves way too many points on the board to put them with the 2012 team.

I have to agree, our econdary is not at that level

I think you're right. Swope was too fast for our defense.

The 2020 team would win 31-30 with Bertolet missing the game-tying PAT.
