Let’s be honest, we aren’t beating two of Bama/Clemson/OSU/ND. I’d be ok finishing 8-1, ranked 5th and playing in the Orange Bowl.

If Notre Dame loses a very close game, they should be in the playoffs along with Clemson. But if Clemson loses or Notre Dame is flat out beat, then that should open the door for another team to enter the playoff IMO. Being left out because of the ACC won't bother me at all (unless it's painfully obvious the game is one sided).
Ohio State getting in with their joke of a schedule would bother me a lot. The B1G conference tried to lead a charge to cancel the season in the summer. So why should they be rewarded for their incompetence??? I'd much rather have Cincinnati and Coastal Carolina over A&M if it meant getting Ohio State out. Their schedule is shite.

Best case scenario, ND wins and Ohio state loses. We probably jump to 3 to play ND in that scenario

If Clemson wins decisively... say 3 TDs over ND that is probably our best shot. I say this because ND is NOT going to beat a full strength Clemson team. If they do that is great. Clemson winning by a TD or even 10 points in the ACC is a problem for us.
Our best path in my opinion is ND getting beaten pretty good by Clemson and Bama beating Gators but not blowing them out. These 2 things happen and we got a 40-50% shot of making it in.

I don't see how ND losing by 3 Tds helps us when we lost to Bama by 28 with the score being 35-14 at the half.
I think Clemson has to beat them by 40 for ND to get completely dropped. Even if they lost by the same 28 points ND will get extra credit for making the ACC title game.

We played Alabama once (early in the season, mind you).
This would be "Clemson vs Notre Dame" playing the second time. If the game isn't close, the committee isn't going to give both of those teams a third potential rematch.
