He does nothing for me, another 4 loss season and they'll be ready to run him out of South Bend. Hiring a guy before they fire him from his current gig, that sounds familiar.

He's kneecapped there though, they shot down his OC hire attempts this offseason. That's as political a program as there is in college athletics.

You can wave that SEC SEC flag all you want but the truth is we were gifted a fairly easy schedule that season. It was a horrible reason to justify his extension.

That 2020 team would win 10 or 11 games against this year's schedule.
Agree with pp, I don't get you weirdos who can't enjoy anything.

We played Florida and Tennessee instead of Abilene Christian, Fresno State, Colorado and UNT. The extension was obviously idiotic, I don’t think anyone is gonna argue that with you. But if you’re trying to argue COVID somehow inflated our win total you’re a moron or trolling
This was great also by the way

I'd be good with Freeman. Between him and Elijah we would own recruiting. And Freeman may just be a great coach - he was going to hire Ludwig when Reese left. ND wouldn't bankroll it
Ludwig is a stud OC.

I’m not saying it is Dabo or that I even want him. I’m just saying who’s a big name that would make a lateral move? Only other guy I could think of is Ryan Day maybe?
Brian Kelly?
James Franklin?

Probably one of the more “realistic” bigger names that could be pulled away from a big school. But he’s never been able to get over the hump in the big 10, always losing to Michigan and OSU, so pass on him IMO. I was more impressed with him winning 9 games twice with Vandy than what he’s done since then. Likely would take another big, guaranteed contract to make it happen anyways.

I wouldn’t mind freeman at all!

DeBoer is a name that doesn't seem to go away. Of the available candidates he's at the top of my list. Freeman wouldn't be a bad hire either.

Any idea what the the folks around the program (players etc) think of Elko if he is the guy?

Wait wait wait yall want Freeman who took over Notre Dame that had won 10 or more in 6 of the last 7 seasons and got resaults of 16-8 so far? Are yall nuts?

Of those mentioned there are far, far worse. Its all relative.

I think he's probably just looking for more money from Washington. They're about to join the Big Ten and get more money.

Franklin reminds me of a less interesting Lane Kiffin. Good coach. He'll probably win 9 games most years. But I'm not sure he's more than that (occasional 10 wins, occasional 7 wins). I want to find someone with more of an unknown ceiling. Something that doesn't have 10s of millions in the bank.

Yea but travel is going to be awful with the distances, time zones, etc. If you read his quote regarding his interest in the A&M job it is far from saying no he's not interested. He sidesteps it completely.

Also I think the idea with Freeman is that he's an outstanding young coach with a high ceiling and that ND is not giving him the resources he needs to compete at a high level.
Posted on 11/16/23 at 11:14 am to 85AustinAg
That’s exactly where I’m at with him. He’ll have the facilities and recruiting as well as the ability to get whatever coordinators he wants at A&M but I do see the down side as well

Is there anything driving this narrative? I hadn't ever heard this prior to this search, but admittedly don't follow ND football.

Of the realistic names mentioned my current list is,
1. DeBoer, his offense with Robinson as DC and recruiting ace would be best case to me.
2. Elko, known entity at this point, does Robinson stay?
3. Schumann, from Saban / Kirby tree, enough said. Does Robinson stay?
3. Robinson, would be cheaper and if it doesn't work out they can make a change in 3 years and go back to the big splash route. OC hire would be huge.
Could be talked into Freeman maybe, want no part of Dabo, Kiffen, Franklin, Traylor, Prime, surly that is BS put out by his camp, no way we are interested in him I hope.
