I was assuming basketball.

Buzz Williams, esquire

Oh, okay, I see.
quick question
what precisely is it about a 16-14 record that has our little aggy peckers so hard right now?

Oh I dunno, maybe the fact that we had legitimate reason to think we might go 0-18 in conference play this year and instead were able to go 10-8?
If Buzz had been able to hold onto Gilder we'd probably have been at least on the bubble of the now canceled tourney.

The only Aggie coach to have a better first year and better first 18 games in conference than Buzz Williams was Shelby Metcalf (who went 13-1 in the SWC in year 1).
Billy Gillispie went 8-8, as did Mark Turgeon. Buzz Williams, in year 1, had one fewer conference win than Tony Barone, Melvin Watkins and Billy Kennedy did combined in their first 18 games.

Everyone knows that perceived potential is much more important than actual winning.

Then why did we ever hire Kennedy, who had neither until year 5?

It would be like if a coach took Arkansas’s roster the last year or two and went 5-3 in conference.

I understand why everyone is optimistic, but the level of optimism euphoria that a lot of aggy has is hilarious. Many an aggy just need to admit they like being the scrappy underdog more than anything (including winning).

That is silly.
But scrappy underdog that wins 16 games vs preseason ranked that wins 16 games is a big difference.
100/100 Aggies take a NCAA team over what we have this year.

2011-2012 A&M was ranked 17 to start the season. We all know how that went.

Do I need to go back and pull up the 2017-2018 threads? Most on here were actively rooting against our team because if we did well in the tournament it meant we’d be keeping Kennedy. This year the aggy hive mind couldn’t have a bigger boner over a .500 record.
