If he killed it this year and won 10 games again do you think we'd even sniff interest from him?

But he didn't kill it. He fell off the fricking horse dead. He lost his mojo. And now we want to overpay for a used-up husk. Very typical of us. Paying LaFerrari Aperta money for a rusty 208 GTB. Just like with Chavis.

He’s also won a national championship and several conference championships with that talent. I’ll glady take one 6-6 lost season in exchange for actual hardware

Sure! Me too!

But is that the deal we're getting (Natties in exchange for 6-6 seasons), or are we getting a burn-out whose time in the sun has come and gone?

This deal has the smell of Fran on it to me.

Not sure why you’re asking since you’ve made up your mind already. I have no idea but I think it’s a risk worth taking. Every coach is going to have flaws in his resume and Mullen has plenty himself, though I like him also

Fran was never anywhere as proven as Jimbo. In fact, he was much more like Mullen in doing more with less at New Mexico & TCU.

Do yall remember when Gary Patterson lost the locker room in 2013 when he went 4-8 after going 7-6 the year before? He was just outmatched in the Big 12 and would never recover until he went 12-1 & 11-2. But then he lost the locker room again and went 6-7 only to regain it the very next year and he's sitting at 9-2 only BU left on the schedule.

Chris Peterson lost the shite out his locker room in 2015. They needed a bowl win over Southern Miss to just stay above .500. Again, somehow he regained it and made the playoff the very next year.

He lives on low expectations and beating a lot of bad and average teams.

I saw a perfect analogy on texags the other day (I know I’m surprised there’s actually decent football talk to be found over there too).

Here are Jimbo’s win totals at FSU:
10
9
12
14
13
10
10
This year TBD - likely 6.

You’re watching a PGA tour guy hit 300+ yard bombs down the middle for 8 holes and then on the 9th he slices it into a bunker and all of a sudden everyone wants to call him an amateur now.

Who knows? Maybe it is the beginning of his slide, but you can’t say that based off just one bad season. The guy has 1 national championship and 3 conference ones, that’s way more than sumlin will ever accomplish so hopefully he is an upgrade for us if he indeed is who we hire.

TIL a coach with a national championship, multiple p5 championships, and a heisman winning qb that he recruited and coached is doing less with more

The rumored amount of money isn't concerning, but I would really be weary of giving anyone not named saban or belichick an 8 to 10 year deal

Especially someone who is running away from the mess they made of their current team. Dumb. We'll never learn.

Pretty much reality right here. It's Saban and the 4-5 coaches who have proved literally anything...one of which happens to be Jimbo.

Literally half his preseason starting lineup is injured. He's started a total of 9 true freshman at various points.

We're making excuses for him already?

Normally it at least takes us one game.

I would be very ecstatic with jimbo. Ten year contracts just scare me because of how long that is

I think it will be an eight year contract, and we gave Sumlin six

A burnout? He's 53 years old and is still killing it on the recruiting trail.

I don't know what happened this year because I don't follow Florida State, but I see he lost two games basically on that last play of the game (one against playoff bound Miami). He lost another by 6 points. So even this really bad season was agonizingly close to a 7-9 win season.

The lesson as always is look at all the data. Take the extreme with a grain of salt because if you stick around long enough, weird shite happens.
