Besides recruiting, what is Jimbo good at?

Definitely not offensive scheme or play calling or hiring good offensive coaches. We blame the o line, but doesn’t it start at the top? I know we don’t have the talent to regularly beat Bama and LSU yet, but having so many mistakes against decent teams is poor planning and execution, which is indicative of poor coaching, which ultimately lands at the top because he should be overseeing everything. Am I missing something?

That’s like saying “besides throwing a football what is Tom Brady really good at?”

The highest scoring team in NCAA history is 2013 fsu.

However, if jimbo isnt supremely confident in the talent advantage, he coaches extremely conservatively.

Hes shown the ability, but he self limits.

Sure we played horrible at LSU. And Fisher may fail, I don't know. But the players in his first full class are true freshman. Why run him down right before the early signing period when our main problem is talent. Grown men who are emotionally weak bug me as bad as us playing like crap Saturday.

And we are better than we were in 2015-2017, I think people forget how soft those teams were. But we are too slow at many positions and too all things bad on the OL. No coach is beating Bama & LSU if he is bad on the OL and lacks team speed. Not happening.

Henson may need to go. Elko really needs to stay. I'm still fairly confident we will get better overall, due to if nothing else better recruiting.

Not sure why some can't understand just how bad the Sumlin years set the program back, in lesser conferences a program might be able to jump back up to the top end a couple of years out from a terrible coach but it ain't happening in the SEC West, especially when you throw Clemson and UGa on the schedule on top of the West. Lets revisit this discussion next year when there is a very good chance that we are 10 and 0 headed to Bama.

Our average OL starter national recruit ranking this year was 850, and over 1000 if you take out Kenyon Green. Only Vandy was worse in the SEC.

We had, potentially, one of the least talented OLs in the entire P5. All low three star Sumlin specials.

No scheme looks good with a terrible OL. None. Until he gets a line full of his guys it isn’t gonna matter.

Jimbo excels at gameplanning.

Have to get the OL talent to execute the game plan.

Simple as that.

I wonder what a line of just Fisher's recruits would look like:

LT - Kenyon Green (SO)
LG - Luke Matthews (RS SO)
C - Layden Robinson (RS FR)
RG - Tank Jenkins (RS SO)
RT - Bart Clement (RS SO)

Backup Tackle - Blake Trainor (RS FR)
Backup Guard - Akinola Ogunbiyi (FR)
Backup Center - ?
Backup Guard - Smart Chibuzo (FR)
Backup Tackle - Chris Morris (FR)

Clement at tackle would be nuts. He seems short for C/G. I'd try Robinson at RT over Clement, but we need somebody at tackle to surprise. Everyone of these guys seems more suited to play inside imo. I am praying Morris has the length to work at tackle and Kenyon makes a smooth transition outside. Kenyon is athletic enough, but is not built like a tackle. Fingers crossed.

Fisher is a good coach. The OL is most of the problem this year, and the second part is in the secondary. Both of those are being addressed through recruiting

And here we are several years later. He’s got his players, the players have the stars, and yet....
