Are we expecting too much from this 2019 team?

The hate and banter I've seen since the Auburn loss has been the most I've ever seen come from our Aggie fans. Yes we did pay 7.5 million dollars for Jimbo to bring us to be a national powerhouse . It might seem grim already but we played 2 very good teams which I dont know why we had expectations to win. We were only projected 7.5 wins this season anyways. Similarly Swinney took over Clemson which had been average like us and it took him several years to break double digit wins. Jimbo is still playing with 75% of Summlins recruits and got us 2nd in the West in his first year which had not been done since Manziel days. Though we play in a tougher division than Clemson I think us as Aggies need to stop and give it some time. This team only has 5 seniors. Keep in mind Jimbo hasn't even been here for 1 and half seasons and we are already throwing the towel.I say give it time. Future schedules we have are more favorable for us to win some championships. Gigem!

We are paying our coaching staff one of the, what, top 2 or salaries in all of football? You don't pay that money and lose to a freshman qb playing his first true road game

It's not just that we lost it's how we lost.

The team didn't look like they gave a shite until the 4th quarter both games.

This.

It would have been one thing to lose a close game to Auburn, because they are a good team. But we never really looked competitive (don't let the final score fool you). We've struggled to run the ball all year, and it's hard to win games being one-dimensional

Don’t be obtuse

We got completely embarrassed, it was an arse kicking, we should definitely expect better than that

Auburn's defense and run game beat us. Bo Nix threw for only 100 yards. I dont think that the true freshman single handedly beat us but I would expect a better game plan against Gus's trickery but I think everyone is jumping the gun on this.

You haven’t been watching Aggie football very long have you?

As to the rest of the post, posters above have already covered it. Had we lost in competitive games, fans wouldn’t be nearly as up in arms. But in the two decent teams we’ve faced this year, we’ve looked like sh**. Nobody expected to be winning the sec in jimbo’s second year, but we did expect to look tougher and more resilient than under Sumlin. We did for the most part last year, which is why this year is a bit puzzling as it seems like a regression.

Long story short, jimbo will get his chance to develop the culture and team to his style and will have all the time and resources to do so. We as fans just like to complain about stuff when we lose. If this is new to you, you haven’t been around sports message boards very long.

This times 100, we didn't lose because of a talent gap even against a team of 5* with Clemson, we lost because we weren't ready to play and the game plans especially on the offensive side of the ball were horrible. There are ways to help hide your shitty ol, we have not done any of them, we tried to impose our will with the running game and that was never going to happen against Auburns front 7. Hopefully the staff proves it's worth what they are getting paid and there is marked improvement throughout the year unlike the KS years.

Nah. I’m not concerned yet. It’s not even half way through year 2. But I also don’t think it’s too much to expect a better performance at home against auburn.

I'm a Capricorn. OP is an Exaggitarius.

Come on, man, you think some of those Fran debacles (77-0, Iowa State) got less grief than this? The second half of any game in 2011? How about Spazital's game calling and the fact that we had two 5-star future NFL starting QB's (and a Heisman winner) on the same bench and he still couldn't draw up anything other than endless permutations of a bubble screen (while Rumlin stood by in a drunken stupor)?

Those last ones are what brought me here after I was permabanned for the second time from Pube-Chin's vanity exercise (TexAgs).

It's been bad, but no WAY has it been worse than those.

Obviously this is an outsider’s perspective, but for me a large part of it is this expected bump you see in year two from many teams, like Georgia a couple years ago or Texas this year. Obviously the schedule is incredibly difficult, but 8-4 with a couple competitive games against the big 4 opponents doesn’t seem like too much to ask for, especially when you’re paying $75 million for an offensive guru. A huge issue is that this offensive guru is mightily struggling so far this year against good teams. 6 points combined in the first 3 quarters against Auburn and Clemson is unacceptable.

There is still a long way to go this season, and it could be an LSU situation where Coach O didn’t appear to have his team together until his 3rd year (especially with your schedule next year), but if I’m A&M I feel like I need to see us compete with at least one of LSU, UGA, and Bama to feel good about the team going forward.

I think this is a fair take. Would only add that those year two turnarounds were likely in places that already had real and broad talent and some significant depth in place. We’re getting closer, but our roster is not on the same level with the big boys yet.

As completely inept as we were on offense for 3 quarters on a hot afternoon I thought our defense played pretty well. Auburn only ended up with about 300 yards of total offense.

Really think our Oline is the glaring problem. We have a pretty solid team outside of Oline.

Our numbers look decent only because Auburn had a lead we couldn’t catch at that point

I’m always curious when the salary in mentioned. Would we be less angry on how this team has played so far if he was making $1.5 mil?

I'm pretty sure they had 14 points with 3 minutes still remaining in the 1st Q. They didn't score again until 5 or 6 minutes left in the game. They went 2 1/2+ quarters without scoring. I think the D looks fine.

My bad. I think our skill people on offense are fine. For the most part I like our receivers. Backs have zero holes and nowhere to run. Mond is getting all kinds of pressure and is slow to read, slow to take off, unaware of the play clock way too often, etc.. But still our Oline talent/execution is well below the rest of the talent on offense.

Our Oline combined with Mond's shortcomings is a disaster. If Mond had A&Ms Oline from 2012 or 2013 we aren't even talking about Mond now.

I disagree a little bit, even when nobody was breathing down his neck he missed wide-open guys way too often

Oh no... you can disagree a lot.

I'm not a Mond fan at all.
