Yeah nobody cares about that. Hocutt is one of the top ADs in the country

There's no doubt of this. Woodward is a good AD. But he's not the be all end all that some make him out to be and this isn't really melt worthy.
We have a frickton of money, elite facilities, and a good, long-term setup in place along with the two most expensive (and important) hires having recently been made.
So I think it's currently a great job that would be hard to frick up too bad for quite a while. We could hire a guy off the street and no one will really know if he's good or bad for 6-7 years.

Danny White is interesting. But I hate how he kept touting UCF asa champion.
He does have splash though. But I think Jimbo needs to sign off on whomever it is.

Not just sign off. This feels like Jimbos pick as much as anyone. Without it, he’s going to be gone.

I honestly wasn’t concerned at all until stuff started coming out about our leadership being in disarray. This was news to me and a lot of folks I think because there was a facade of stability and structure that hadn’t seemed to exist with our admin and AD for a while. I think the history we have along with Fisher constantly citing our admin being aligned when he came over has a lot of fans spooked. If it had just been “Woodward wanted to go home and couldn’t pass it up” it wouldn’t be a big deal at all

For a long time we couldn't and wouldn't break out of the good ol boy hires. But our last 3 ADs have all brought structure and diversity to how we do things.
They weren't always liked, but each brought ideas to the table from successful ADs around the country. We got better. More professional. They have put procedures in place that will outlast them and each was able to build on the foundation laid by the last.
I think we're healthier today than ever and the job has evolved a lot. I even think we could handle an internal promo like some of y'all have suggested because we're mostly unshackled from the incestuous AD we had forever.

Way more many issues no doubt

Really this week showed us how much of our psyche as a fanbase is tied to Jimbo, so really it comes down to who Jimbo wants.
I am actually scared we give him some raise or extension this offseason or the next just because we don’t want to lose him and something like that ties down our program for a decade if Jimbo doesn’t work out.

AD's get too much credit when boosters step up, and too much blame when things don't work out. Remember that guy Jason Cook who tried to take all the credit for Johnny's Heisman and getting us into the SEC when Byrne was off fishing? Haven't heard much about his brilliant marketing skills since he went to Baylor. Speaking of Baylor, Mack Rhoades was some kind of wunderkind when UH boosters finally started stepping up to hire coaches and build facilities, but again, I haven't seen many articles about his grand accomplishments at Missouri or Baylor.
If LSU boosters had really wanted or been able to pay for a bigger name coach than Ogeron, they would have.
The funny thing is that, as much as our fans bitch about "good ole boy" hires, LSU just made one. It's fun to watch LSU fans crowing over this, but their fanbase is even more schizophrenic than ours (and less than half of them actually went to LSU), so we'll see how long that honeymoon lasts. In the meantime, I'm proud of that brokeass school for selling their boats and Ford Raptors to get their priorities right and spend that money on an AD.

I’m not going to get into the complicated political situation that led to that hire but this just is not accurate

I'm obviously not as informed as you guys. What does Woodward leaving have to do with Jimbo?

Jimbo has been quoted more than once that the reason he came to A&M was Scott Woodward. But yeah, I don't see the problem. Get Fisher involved in AD selection and it's all good.

It is John Sharp were talking about here. No such considerations will be taken.

I don't like the guy (does anybody?). But even meany poo-poo heads can do the right thing occasionally. I don't see any way for him to avoid getting Fisher involved. Anything less would be career suicide.

It's not a worry, Sharp has been up Jimbos arse from day one:
The only problem I see is Jumbo has so much leverage now he could sink the entire program for a decade if things go south. I hope he leverages for new facilities and staff and not a new contract for himself.
quote:
Texas A&M chancellor John Sharp to the @HoustonChron on if they had any concern about signing Jimbo Fisher to a 10-year guaranteed contract: “Yes. We couldn’t get him to agree to a 15-year deal, so this is the best we got.”

Nice jinx haha. Only interim, but we all know he’s got a good chance of getting the official position, would be a classic A&M move.
