Why do people keep ignoring yards per play?

Going for it on 4th down four times. Shirley didn't help.

Game was over going for a 56 yard FG instead of putting and pinning Alabama back. Basically hand gifted them a short field. Congrats on the win. Your team is playing really good right now. Qb is special.

Yea, I like Lane ok but I'm still trying to figure out what exact accomplishments he has on the field that makes him an elite coach? All the LSU fans were just certain they finally had the better coach and staff. Deboer is kinda who he is but he as at least been to a National title game. What on the field accomplishment does Lane have as a HEAD coach?

Roughly equivalent, not much to make of it.

ETA: Are you guys mad or something? Who ignored it? It’s posted in the OP.

5.6 vs 5.7

Same reason some people keep ignoring points per game?

My takeaway from that game is that LSU does all the little things poorly. They aren’t good in situational football and are only average running the ball.

The OL is only OK as well.

Wommack's defense drives me insane... They give up chunks of yards but stats aren't how the game is decided it's the scoreboard.

This is why "Scoring offenses" is a superior stat to "Total offense."

Wommack's soft coverage defense is going to give up yardage. Frustrating to watch, but the end result is all that matters. It'll always boost a QBs completion %...that's for sure.

This is the answer right here.

Alabama wants to keep everything in front of them and not give up big plays. Teams can march between the 20's, but the redzone is a different matter.

Those big yardage totals are a mirage. They're the product of Alabama's style of defense, not the opposing teams offensive ability.

Congratulations Bama. You're coaches did a masterful job last night. LSU coaches pushed every wrong button. You aren't the better team though. Look at the stats.

You were better in critical moments last night and maybe that's all that matters.

Kiffin had some really bizarre 4th down choices that just made very little sense.

The stats are pretty typical. Bama is a counterpuncher defense. LSU did a great job most of the time but having to go on 15 play drives every single time really seemed to frustrate LSU QB

This has happened to us in several losses, even recently against Oklahoma and others. Twice the yards , etc.. but less in points of course and lose.

Last night was mid pleasing in a sense, our punter averaged a zillion yards and always backed you up. Combined with LSU going for on 4th down, interceptions, and missed fields from 60 yards away etc.. gave us short field

That’s football
