I believe Evan Daniels knows less about this than anybody

So things we’ve learned this week:
1. Count no one out, including a return to Virginia Tech.
2. Nobody has a damn clue.

Now it’s Kentucky, Tennessee or Arkansas according to Eric Bossi

Long arse post on UF 247 site about Tennessee negatively recruiting against UF:
quote:
nwbuf08 880 2 hours ago Without question, one of the strangest recruitments of all time. Burner accounts, sources that don't have any actual sources, showy chest-puffing from schools that think they are in the lead, three different leaders, eliminations of schools that weren't actually real. This was like the Tre Mann recruitment on steroids. This was like CJ Spiller picking Clemson before he took the Gators posters down in his room. Honestly, I'm ready for it to be over. But what I will say- and what you're seeing from national guys today- is the reality that Florida's never been "out." Also, fwiw- Tennessee negative recruited Florida BIGLY in this deal. Source here is direct from program. They did it with Mann too (who told CMW) but this was dirtier. Barnes and Kim English basically argued "White is 42, still learning, has never coached a pro. Barnes coached Aldridge, Durant, Grant Williams. Knows the game way better than White and that staff. Florida's fan base is toxic, ours is good. Come here and become the guy you always wanted to be. Go there and fail." You can debate whether or not this is fair-- I think it happens everywhere- but with a kid who is taking his time and thinks on things like KBJ- the fact those discussions took place is frustrating and I know for a fact that the staff was mad about it. Watch that handshake with Barnes next year- no matter what happens. Finally, I think the Mincy tweet gave away that UF wasn't giving up on this but Sunday afternoon my staff contact said we weren't out of it so I imagine none of that changed recently either. It's just our staff isn't real "showy" about stuff.

I don't see the big problem with this unless Barnes and White are friends. They can recruit however they want and I would expect them to make their argument any way they can. We are great and the other teams suck sounds pretty standard to me. Sometimes it can work and sometimes it can bite you in the arse.

Yeah I agree. I know for a fact Tennessee’s main pitch was that Williams wasn’t on the NBA radar at all when he got to Tennessee and they ran the offense through him and got him picked in the first round. Williams called him for 2 hours on his OV and answered all his questions and pretty much told him if he is the focal point point of the offense he will follow the same path.
Obviously if you’ve coached Durant, Aldridge, Myles Turner, Tristan Thompson, PJ Tucker, etc and White doesn’t have a long track record with NBA guys you’d be a fool not to use that.

Ugh. Could have had Conley and Greg Oden both if Heath wasn’t such an idiot.

not so sure a random internet poster complaining about negative recruiting reflects on Mike White's personality in any way
Barnes has done a great job developing bigs at Tennessee; he needs to use it. It's his best pitch. White's player development has been spotty, but, at the same point, let's be honest, Kerry Blackshear doesn't need to be developed, he needs to be showcased. White hasn't been able to showcase a big at UF because the best one he's had during his tenure has been Kevarrius Hayes

Well, the VT press conference today ended up being nothing so who the hell knows where he is going at this point.

Don't look now but there is Twitter buzz that he's going to pick Florida.
But there was also buzz that he was going to pick UK, then Tennessee, then going back to VT.

Yep, someone “in the know” says he committed to UF and will be announcing tonight.

Evan Daniels says VT and VOLS are out. Heard today he was leaning to Tennessee last week and they were expecting good news but staff hasn’t been in contact with him or his camp since Sunday.
