I think it was Clowney. Fournette is setting himself up to be as popular or more popular than Clowney in college though, if he produces. Say what you want about BUGA, but he has turned it into a legit brand. Smart guy.

Modern recruits.
Clowney was probably the best DE to come out of high school the past decade. Pryor, Vince young, Richardson, Reggie bush.
I would put LF in the joe McKnight territory. Which is pretty damn high. All those Florida/USC guys were very highly recruited. So was randle, perriloux, tebow,
Having said that, LF has gotten VERY high praise from some of the best analyst in the buisness. He is drawing the attention of Adrian Peterson himself not to mention the manning brothers etc. some say a better version of gurley which is pretty damn scary.

A host filling in for Jim Rome on his show last week called LF the biggest HS recruit to come out in the past 20 years.

Considering he's not even a consensus #1 player, no. Clowney was more coveted

Flavor of the month.
Next year it will be somebody else.

Terrelle Pryor. His recruitment was a circus. People were saying he'd be the #1 QB, WR, LB, or DE.

This. LF hasn't been an all out circus, probably because it really been just a two horse race throughout. A Texas hat will be on the table, but that's just a formality. Most of the too level recruitments were more open, at least early, and had more drama. As invested as we are, this is a tempest in a teapot on a national scale.

He's just as coveted as the top players from any given year.
Jimmy Clausen is the only one I can recall who inspired a Lebron James-like following in high school.

Until next year and then he's old hat. This happens every year, but truthfully any position other than qb in particular rarely make an immediate impact as far as wins and losses and they are only there for 3 years so we make more of these players than need be.

Does anyone remember Marcus Dupree's recruitment? Wasn't it huge?

Yeah he didn't announce until like May or something.
Pryor should've chosen Michigan. The landscape of College football would be so different. He would've played in Rich Rod's zone read offense which would've been ridiculous, and he probably would've succeeded.

Word is Pryor was going to pick West Virginia had Rich Rod not left. He wanted to stay close to home. And his recruitment was much bigger than anyone since Clausen

Jimmy Clausen laughs at this

Probably Clowney. He was considered to be miles ahead of any of the other recruits in his class, and according to Todd McShay, he would have been a top-5 pick right out of high school.

I don't remember it, but I watched the 30 for 30 about him last year. His was probably the first recruitment to get this wild.

Pryor was going to Tennessee had Cutcliffe and Trooper not left.
