The fact that we didn't have a stellar season, were under investigation for much of the recruiting season, and don't have our two coordinators yet, its not all that surprising. Regardless, the biggest recruiting bump from a nat'l title comes in the 3rd recruiting class.

Just wait until signing day before you complain about our class. We only have 16 commits, but they are all good recruits. This class will still probably end up around 8-10 I think after NSD.

I'm about to have to avoid all the Auburn message boards. All these sky is falling posters are killing me. Chizik is obviously failing as a coach because we've missed on some big recruits.

I have never seen a more depressing bunch.

People can sit around and act like this is no big deal, but it is. We are getting passed over ny prospects and Chiz is only looking to hire some middle of the road guys, per PM's recent update.

I love how you are taking PM as gospel after all the talking about how there are no Auburn experts that know anything in this thread. Chizik could blow these hires, in which case we will likely be looking for a new head coach in a few years, you act like he's not invested in hiring properly. Just accept the fact that you'll know who we are going to be getting about the same time he hire them, Chiz is beyond tight lipped.

We need either an up and comer that will be here 4-5 years, or try and find the next Chavis type that will be good but not looking for a head job anywhere. Hiring someone like Stoops would be pointless since we'd be stuck doing this same thing all over in another year or two tops.

Personally I'm more worried about Chiz not letting the new DC run a different system and us being stuck with the tampa two zone style that's the biggest source of our problems atm.

But the dude just won a NC last year, you;d think he;d have a little margin to take his time hiring a DC and OC.

TTsTowel -

I tried to tell you early on that Zook was the name I was hearing. Not saying he's the guy, but if you remember my posts to you I said he had early momentum. I think they cooled on him when thought had a shot at Stoops, but have picked up since.

I'm not on the fire Chizik bandwagon or anything like that, but it's looking more and more like we were carried to a NC by a once-in-a-generation QB and D-lineman and an offensive line that he didn't recruit. There hasn't been a lot of coaching going on since he's been here. Yes, we won a national title, but at some point, you have to coach up these top 5 recruiting classes. Not to mention Chiz has lost the momentum of a winning a national title faster than any coach I can remember.

I'm not gonna freak out about the recruiting. It sucks to lose some of these players, but Chiz and Co. have shown they can recruit with anybody. But it's the actual coaching that has me worried. This coming season will be year 4 for Chiz. Time to start winning big without Cam Newton.

He's been the most accurate in terms of the coaching search.

Yeah, this is what concerns me more than anything. I want to see some actually coaching and development on the defensive side of the football. The only positive defensive development we've seen since Chizik has been here was done by Rocker, and he's gone.

I'm more worried about us getting that good DC than recruits. The OC and DC hires this time around will make or break Chizik. Our first top ten class he recruited will be juniors or redshirt sophs next year, so the youth excuse will be gone.

All this has proven is that it is pretty damn hard to recruit when you've had a very big ncaa investigation (regardless of outcome), a less than stellar season, and have to replace two coordinators is very hard to do. It is much more important for us to get the right coaches in place. Players will come and go, but we need to make sure the staff is correct first.

The hires are more important than a couple of cruits. I am relaxing until next week.

...and then we're gonna freak out if we still don't have any coordinators by then.

Kidding (kinda).

Who do you think we end up with? Is JWj still on the table?

No info, but I think Auburn would go with someone they can have come in immediately. If recruits are actually worried about who the DC will be, they need to get a hire done pre-NSD.

And if the Packers make the Super Bowl, the earliest you could get JWJ to come in is the 6th(NSD is the 1st)...
