Honestly, I'd think more Aub's would feel the exact same way you do.

Philon had the opportunity to play for AU, he spurned y'all to play for Bama, and he ended up a Hawg.

Why would I hold ill wishes towards a 18 year old kid? Because he decided he didn't want to play football for the University I cheer for? How ridiculous does that sound?

I have sympathy for the kid because that is the school he grew up wanting to play for, and thought he had that opportunity. It's not like he spurned us a week or two before signing day.

That being said, I'm glad Chizik didn't extend him another offer when all this went down with Alabama. Glad he got a chance at another SEC school, but even happier it wasn't at Auburn.

The fact is that Alabama got two shinier new toys on Signing Day in Kirven and Tomlinson, and chose to accept both of their committments instead of taking one and politely telling the other that they waited too long. Instead, a recruit who did things the right way and shut his recruiting down when he committed got left out in the cold.

This is it...but until the system is changed there is nothing that can be done about it. Making a recruit sign when he commits would stop this...these kids and their families know Saban before they commit to him...I'm sure other coaches point it out...

You are one of very few AU fans that hold no ill will towards TJ then, right?

How 'bout CyrusK & BrentC from last year? No ill will?

Why would I? Sure I was upset that we didn't get them, as they are very talented players. Why would I have ill will towards somebody I have never met, probably never will, all for a game of football?

It astounds me how some of you people think.

Nope. Not one bit. I do think the people around those kids could have handled the process better (especially Yeldon).

apples and oranges...the kid didn't get fricked over in that situation

surely you're not so dense as to not see how they are different.

I'm still upset that philon flipped on us (not overly so but wish he had stayed), but i also have sympathy as to what happend to him.

We can make excuses and debate it, but the bottom line is this looks bad on Saban and UA. Saban is the best coach in the game, but he needs to change his tactics to prevent this in the future.

I agree with this. I also agree that the only way to prevent this again is to have an early signing period. If he had signed when he committed there would be no problem. Also probably should do away with greyshirting.

I really don't even have a problem with greyshirting, if it is on the table from the beginning.

Greyshirting will start phasing out here with the inception of the only 25 rule and no back counting. You limit yourself the next year if you keep a grey shirt commitment

No ill will at all. Wish he would have handled it a little differently, but he's a kid and we have no idea what was going on behind the scenes to cause him to act like that. No biggie though.

Not at all. Hope the kid has a great NFL career one day.

I was actually relieved when he changed back to y'all if that makes any sense at all. That feeling has since been solidified. I think he'll be at UNA before much longer.

I don't understand why there needs to be a "period" at all. If the school wants him as a junior and he wants to go to that school, let him sign.

ha, I posted on here that I didn't want him back. Cyrus yes, Brent no.

The NCAA wants them to have more contact prior to signing. The heavily limit any contact prior to their senior year

Then let them sign anytime they want during their senior year. The kids have to have a parent/guardian signature, so it's not like they run the risk of being pressured to sign right away when they take their first visit. Whoever the parent/guardian is could pump the breaks if that situation arose.

This is pretty much sums up how I feel. Calloway was far from being a disappointment. CK ad TJ were disappointing to lose more TJ for obvious reasons. However, I don't hold any malice whatsoever, and wish them well.

But how do we know what the coach tells the kids when they commit.

It sounds to me like Philin's coach developed a sudden phobia of falling up a flight of stairs.

We don't. I think that it is up to the kid to make sure it is handeled correctly. I get where you are coming from, though. It is a very sticky situation all together.
