I still don't see why a gray shirt was such a bad deal. Other than injured pride, it does not change how this year would have gone for him. Redshirt or grey shirt, he's still rehabbing and lifting for most of the year.

Well for one they have to pay their own way with a grey shirt. I dont know the kids financial situation but this is an issue with some. Or they just sit around till the spring. Either way they arent on the team till the spring. Id say that isnt a good deal whenever you were committed for a year to play on said team without getting hint of grey shirting. Just call a spade a spade. LSU fans did it with Elliot Porter. If you tell a kid very late that they are going to have to grey shirt its a pretty crappy thing to do. Much less right before signing day and on signing day.

I didn't say he was a great journalist...but becuase he doesn't futher your objective he's a hack.

I like that standard. Run with it.

Let the article speak for itself. Instead of attacking the article you went with an ad hominem attack on the journalist. It's a typical strategy when facts get in the way.

I don't understand the problem. He was told weeks ago about the grey shirt deal, and kids are making school visits up until the week-end before signing day, so he was free to do that. Some are trying to make it look like Saban told him about this the morning of signing day. We can take these resporters columns as gospel, and that they are right in every case. They put a certain spin on everything and Scarbinsky is one of the worst.
In an article by Josh Moon from the Montgomery Advertiser, he implied that Auburn was so moral and upstanding and that Bama is a football factory and not caring about academics, The records show that Bama has a higher graduation rate, and better grade point average than Auburn and a lot better than most.
People need to realize that when these guys write a column, it is just their opinion and not always factual. Sometimes they cross the line.

I have to admit...i thought you were a swam tider alter when you first joined.

I'm certain you're not now.

I agree with you. I still get upset when a kid flips (see yeldon) but i wouldn't wish this on them.

Read Saban's own words regarding commitment. Consider that Philon shut down his recruitment just like Saban mentions in his tirade. Consider that Philon is a child and Saban is an adult with more influence in the sports world than most.

Saying you don't understand the problem is just asinine.

it's been speculated a month ago

I haven't read Moon's work. I know he's out of Montgomery. That's about it. I have read Scarbinsky for years. He's lazy and not very good. You can't honestly tell me you think he is even a good writer. I'm not journalist, but his stuff strikes me as lazy. If I sent my clients anything like this they would send it back in a heartbeat.

Can't agree. Watch the video. He has a lot of pressure on him. I am real sorry this happened to him regardless of what he did to AU or that Bama was invovled.

I don't remember him on here, but I guess our names are close to the same.

Btw- I do think some lower rated players like Philon (who are lifetime Bama fans) flirt or take aubie offers to get interest from Bama.

The problem people have with it, is that the kid committed to Alabama in September and never took another visit to any other school. He may have been free to do it, but he was committed to Alabama and thought Alabama was committed to him. The fact is that Alabama got two shinier new toys on Signing Day in Kirven and Tomlinson, and chose to accept both of their committments instead of taking one and politely telling the other that they waited too long. Instead, a recruit who did things the right way and shut his recruiting down when he committed got left out in the cold.

Some people don't have a problem with it, and that is fine. They say football is a business and it is the coaches job to get the best players in, feelings be damned. But even Nick Saban is quoted as saying that when a player commits to a school, his recruitment should end there. That opinion has apparently changed since last year.

We can make excuses and debate it, but the bottom line is this looks bad on Saban and UA. Saban is the best coach in the game, but he needs to change his tactics to prevent this in the future.
I agree with every character in this post, including the punctuation

Honestly, I'd think more Aub's would feel the exact same way you do.

Philon had the opportunity to play for AU, he spurned y'all to play for Bama, and he ended up a Hawg.

I certainly don't need you to explain it to me, because I think you are asinine. Please note that on this board, none of us are authorities and are just stating our opinions.
