Well that was a surprise! I thought Arky was in the lead for him.

No it’s been rumored for a bit on the pay board that he was going elsewhere. You’ve also had a camp all along that thought he’d never come here after what happened to his cousin with us a few years back. Apparently it turned a lot of their family off to Arkansas.

Not hating on y’all getting the commitment, but how is the #1 player in the state of Arkansas ranked 275 overall? That’s a huge indictment on high school football in the state and likely the reason Arky is so bad.

He’s not #1 on 247 but yeah the state hasn’t produced much lately. It’s never really produced a whole lot of quantity but there were some great high end players available up until around the last 5 years or so. Several mackey, doak Walker, Remington, best return man award winners.

The ‘22 class is shaping up really well so hopefully that’s turning around. The Little Rock school district needs to get its shite together. We’ve been producing basketball talent really well though. That being said we still seem to recruit from 20-30 on average just like Ole Miss and MSU so we should be better than going 2-10.

It is a basketball and baseball state in terms of producing talent every year but people want football to be priority because $$$.

All the Little Rock kids doing anything but football has absolutely gutted our program. I’d be willing to bet you could tie that shift pretty closely to the program falling off a cliff under JLS and Bielema’s early years.

Pitt and crew are doing a pretty good job recruiting on nothing but faith in the program.
No recent history to sell.
No high draft choices to sell.
No plethora of instate talent.
Kids have to commit on faith.

To quote Field of Dreams: "Build it and they will come."

We have lots of building to do. Hope springs eternal, and I think we have improved the infrastructure hugely (coaching staff). We will see.

We do have more but they aren't being developed. The little Rock schools went into decline but that is slowly starting to change.

The Little Rock schools are slowly turning it around. North Little Rock and Bryant are state champs with players that had division 1 offers. They have a new 7A high school in Little Rock Southwest.

I heard that Little Rock schools hired a new superintendent from Northwest Arkansas and he said that Athletics are a top priority. Politics is what hurt Little Rock public schools.

The little Rocks were in decline long before JLS and the Bert. Also for a long time Arkansas stopped recruiting Texas hard.

Petrino got blacklisted by TX HS football coaches for his way of cutting (specifically Dallas area) players (Cedar Hill kicker Eduardo Camara, Pilot Point offensive lineman Cam Feldt and Rockwall-Heath linebacker Austin Moss.) and turning over his roster.

Bielema followed it up with his anti-up-tempo style speech at the Texas High School Coaches Convention and back and forth with Kingsbury.
