Think we end up with Novosad the kid from Dripping Springs. He lit up the camp we had him at and has a lot of ties to the school, and is likely the type of prospect who’s okay with sitting for a while. Lagway seems to be our guy in 2024 right now

That was his true freshman year, a lot of players dont look good their true freshman year, especially at QB...when forced into action especially. Players naturally tend to get better over time on their own with experience.

Point is, he didnt really get a whole ton better over 3 years with Jimbo there (in those 3 seasons). The sophomore year to senior year was improvement but really only slight (135 to 147 passer rating). For a supposed QB whisperer, just not very amazing results is all I'm saying. Enter 2021 and Calzada who had been there for going into 3rd year looked almost straight up lost playing at times. We'll see what Jimbo can do this year between Johnson and King but again, for a guy who specializes in QB development and play, you cant say you've been happy with that position in his first 4 years there as it's obviously been a noticeable hinderance to the offense.

quote:

Good to know the literal only way a coach can show any development of any kind of any QB is if they are hesiman candidates

A little overreaction there to me saying a QB there hasn't gotten to "wow, he's good" territory...not exactly heisman level expectations needed there to say a QB played well. I'm pretty sure no one is putting KJ Jefferson on heisman lists last year but his first year starting at Arkansas was "wow, he was good" territory. I'd say a big part of that was the coaching he received, because I dont think Jefferson is explosively more talented than a lot of other QBs. A lot of what made him look decent was merely good offensive design and playing to his strengths.

Holstein making a big mistake. Never run from competition.

Waiting for Manning to decide so he knows if he can go to Bama or not is running from competition?

I’m pretty sure this has been mentioned 100 times in recruiting threads about him. It’s a legitimate concern with him, going back to when he transferred high schools.

How is it a concern when the kid led his team to a state championship?

The school he transferred to was already an established power house who has multiple titles in recent years and will win more after he graduates. This is when the rumors began about him being scared off by Walker Howard. Just comes off as a weak move from he and his family.

So the kid transferred into a powerhouse, yet he's scared of competition?

You do know you sound like a fricking retard, right?

ETA: And he jumped up a classification. Never change LSU fans, never change.

Well, you obviously have no clue what you're talking about here. There was no competition at the QB spot at Zachary, despite how much they've been winning. He was the guy as soon as he transferred and knew a loaded team around him would benefit him more than transferring to another school in Lafayette. Now, he's made it clear LSU isn't for him presumably because Howard is a road block again for him. As for the competition part, his old high school plays against the best schools in the state throughout the regular season.

Then say he transferred for a better opportunity, not that he "ran away from competition."

I mean, he led his team to an undefeated season winning a state title last season. Walker Howard's team went 8-5 and got bounced in the 1st round of the playoffs.

Did Eli Ricks transfer from LSU to Alabama because he was scared of the competition within LSU's DB room? Hell no. He transferred for a better opportunity.

Eli was behind a very talented upperclassman. The odds he would have taken the starting job from an already established QB was slim even if he played up the same level. It made perfect sense for Eli to transfer. You only get so many opportunities to make a name for yourself and get offers. Sitting behind someone who may or may not be better than you is not the most ideal way.

I don't think Eli is scared of competition especially if he ends up somewhere like Bama or back at A&M.

If Bama gets Manning it is possible that Holstein ends up at A&M. Our coaches are still recruiting him

For now, yes, but probably not likely.

He doesn’t have to wait for Arch to decide before Saban will take him

Probably doesn't want to compete with Manning, though. I think he probably ends up somewhere like tOSU

It's exactly what he did though...

Holstein's older brother graduated and the quarterback job was between Howard and Holstein. Holstein transferred out of the program because he was scared he wouldn't start over Howard.

Not even remotely close to the same situation.

Holstein transferred to a 5A power house who had no quarterback. Howard (After winning a state title the year before) broke his leg, missed time in the regular season, and still played in the playoffs, leading his team to the semi finals, on a broken leg. He lost to the 1 seed in 4A private.

ETA: that said, any team taking Manning over Holstein is dumb. Holstein is the better prospect.

Your story would make a lot more sense if Howard and Holstein were in the same graduating class. They aren't.

So he transferred for a better opportunity.

Got it.
