He’s clearly not afraid of competition if he’s coming to A&M. Weigman is more highly rated on 247.

I think sayin "scared of competition" is the wrong way to put it.

I never said he’s afraid of competition but He did leave school and transfer across state because he couldn’t beat walker Howard out that’s a fact. The kids super talented, Howard was a year older

He knows where he stands against Howard. Weigmman is more of an unknown to him (not saying he isn’t really good too),

It’s a little different to unseat a top tier starter vs an open competition in college. Unless, Walker wins the starting job as a freshman and dominates then it’d be open.

He transferred away from going to STM because of Howard. When Howard blew up in June of 2019 with offers from Bama, A&M & LSU, summer before Eli's freshman year at STM, talk in July surfaced of Eli going to Zachary instead despite his older brother still at STM (senior, starting QB). Then they made that move.

Holstein's informed our coaches some time ago they wouldnt be looking here because of Howard coming here. He knows first hand about Howard and just didnt want to be in that situation where he felt he would be sitting for a while. He wasn't going to start till his senior year at STM.

It's not anything against Weigman, but to him personally it's some stars on a piece of paper, he was actually behind (or going to be behind) Walker Howard in high school which prompted him a change in high schools, so that stuck with him. Understandable why they made that move for Eli though, he got to start his sophomore year instead at Zachary and got a lot of notoriety earlier on in his recruitment than he would have staying at STM and never starting for his first 3 years there. His older brother was a legend at STM though, had like 100 TD and 17 picks his final 2 years.

Is there bad blood between Holstein and Howard or just a competitive thing at the same high school and Holstein wanted to be able to show out? Some of the comments on here have skirted that issue but maybe I'm reading way too much into them

No bad blood at all. Holstein's were just making the best move for Eli to get noticed earlier on than staying at STM.

If he stayed there, would have not started till senior year since he is 23 and Howard is 22. So when it became clear the level of QB Howard was in June 2019 picking up offers from LSU, Bama, A&M; they made the move the following month to get Eli over to Zachary instead. They had a senior QB his freshman year there (who went to Memphis I think on scholarship), then the reigns were all his starting last year as a sophomore.

I dont think there's any issues between Howard/Holsteins. Just a matter of a log jam at QB at STM. Howard didnt even start till his junior year at STM because Eli's older brother did big things (100 TD and 17 picks in Howard's first 2 years at STM).

I mean that's an accurate representation of what's happening here. It's not rocket science.

You're right. He didn't want to deal with an incoming 5* so he went to a school with.....an incoming 5*

T-Bird just laid the story out about what happened. You don't have to believe it

I absolutely understand why he transfered to a different school. That makes a bunch of sense. The idea that he didn't choose LSU because of Howard doesn't. Cause we have weigman. Who's regarded just as high. And we are about to have an upper tier 4* start for us with 4 years of eligibility. It's not like he is just skipping into a wide open situation

I would just say that there's history between Howard and Holstein and Holstein doesn't know much about Weigman? Doesn't matter either way both QB's are set for the near future

Young man made a good move. Locked in a QB spot at an SEC school. Not many of them available.

Oh certainly I'm sure of that . Just meant with Walker Howard taking over after his brother Caleb.
