Nice pickup, Aggies.

Strong has got to hold on to what he can this year and hit the ground running for the 2015 class.

From Orangebloods:

Country Club Slumin w/ Sumlin

Sumlin is selling the "SEC" dream (where they finish 3rd in their DIVISION)
Slumin's selling Rick Ross, Tupac, Drake. Booming it on the speakers at practice.
He's selling the "Johnny took all his classes online don't even have to attend class!" Total lack of accountability.
Selling the pursuit of the National Championship (who the f? is he able to sell that to? 18 year old kids... duh yeah only them)
He's flying in on a helicopter (impressionable to an 18 year old)
He tried hard to get to USC. He'll leave as soon as he gets a better job... which isn't hard to do honestly. Wait til he's losing.
He's selling the metro area of Collie Station (oh, wait!)
Other than the parents w/ their hands out (uh anybody remember RSJ?) parents will see through that facade.
(I know what program if I was a parent I'd want my kid in)

Look at the record... Texas vs. Texas eAtMe... it's lop sided in our favor cause they're not Texas.

It won't last.

A key reason I believe Alaka and Henderson shunned Strong for Sumlin Reply

Mack Brown signed many 5 Star and 4 Star recruits over the years. Some turned out to be superstars - see VY or very good - see Sergio Kindle and Michael Griffin to name a quick few and some just did not turn out to be high performing college Football players like Garrett Gilbert or Tray Allen or John Chiles or Desean Hales or Taylor Bible or Dan Buckner …. you get the point.

The biggest complaint from many of us about Mack Brown led program was the Country Club atmosphere with the UT football program that became the culture especially after the magical 2005 season. Some 5 Star and 4 Star players who plateaued in High School are attracted to living in the ATX and living UT Football Club laid back Country Club Coach Mack the nice guy dreams. I would bet Alaka and Henderson are such players.

Now players like Alaka and Henderson look at Coach Charlie Strong and see his no nonsense I am going to play the best, hardest working players and not baby any Prima Donna 5 star and 4 star incoming high school players. I remember when 5 star New Orleans Native Ryan Perriloux committed to UT when LSU had no nonsense Coach Saban coaching them. When Saban left for the Dolphins Perriloux sized up that now his "hometown" LSU program had a more relaxed Les Miles coming in and he could leverage his 5 star status to get the Nice Cajun LSU "Money" Handshakes and privileges of the do anything at any cost LSU big money football donors.

RSJ from Sealy last year had many similarities to Perriloux - I bet it is safe to say that some **** Football Donors are doing what Heritage **** does from the Sherrill days and really throughout time.

This is why I think the best 5 star and 4 star athletes are the ones that Nick Saban's signs because it is a good bet those players know they are the best and want to learn from a great teaching coach like Nick Saban and welcome the best of the best competition. Jevan Snead's don't sign with Nick Saban led teams - players like Snead go where they think they can get the easiest route to what THEY want.

I look forward to seeing the new culture of UT football player that knows when they sign up to play for Coach Charlie Strong. I have a Strong feeling (pun intended) that our new football coach does not suffer fools or Prima Donnas - and it is better that the Prima Donna Alakas and Henderson are getting **** Money Handshakes to live their Country Club Sumlin is the new Mack Brown for the soft 5 star and 4 star players to land dreams.

The level of panic on this board right now is comical... Reply
"This is the worst recruiting class since when?"
"Charlie Strong just isn't a good recruiter"
"This is a dumpster fire"

All the while our 3.24 average Star Ranking is just right behind Oregon at 3.25 and ahead of...

Ole Miss - 3.20
OU - 3.1
Arkansas - 3.05
Nebraska - 3.00
West Virginia - 2.95
Louisville - 2.94
Oklahoma State - 2.92
Wisconsin - 2.92
Baylor - 2.92
Texas Tech - 2.92
Missouri - 2.81
Kansas State - 2.80
Kansas - 2.80
Iowa State - 2.57
TCU - 2.53

I know that's not what we've seen in the past as far average star ranking but I guarantee you this 2014 class is vastly more productive than the 2009 class, and nobody in their right mind would switch 2009 for 2014 when they were coming out of HS. We still have the #1 recruiting class in the BIG 12 and the #1 Star Ranking in the BIG 12. If that's really a "dumpster fire" then I'd go ahead and say we'll be OK.

Re: Country Club Slumin w/ Sumlin

Sumlin is kicking our arse in recruiting because of a UT fan who became their best football player ever, a Canadian rapper, the success of other teams who are now in their conference, and helicopters. It should be laughable but it is actually just frustrating.
