He was just on a visit to Columbus. He's going back next week for their spring game. I get the feeling they are the new leader.

Tidesports on Averitt:

quote:

Woodbury, New Jersey three-star athlete Anthony Averett committed to the University of Alabama on Saturday afternoon, becoming the 10th pledge to the 2013 class.

Averett favored the Crimson Tide for a while in his recruitment before finally pulling the trigger during UA's annual spring game, A-Day.

"When I first got there it felt like home," Averett told TideSports.com. "The people there treated me right. Those people love their football, too.

"The support they have for academics was a big reason as well. That was a big thing. Their graduation rate is second only behind Stanford. So academics is No. 1. And then, they're the national champions. That's big right there. They win a lot. And Nick Saban is a legend. So why not?"

Averett claimed offers from Penn State, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin among others.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder will start out as a cornerback from the Tide. He committed to Saban in his office.

"He said congratulations when I told him," Averett said. "He said he can't wait till next year for me to be here so he can coach me up. He talked about making me a better man, not just about being a football player. It's was about life and more than just the game of football.

"Coach Saban said he liked my speed and definitely my size. That's the stuff Coach Saban is looking for. He loves my speed. I run a 4.44.

"I love to play man to man. I can jump high so I win a lot of jump balls. I'm a competitor. If it comes down to me winning or you winning, I'm going to win. I'm a competitor. I don't like to get beat.

"Tell all the Alabama fans I said, 'Roll Tide.'"

If Hubbard was terrorizing your Oline like that today then what's gonna happen when Montgomery and Mingo are lined up across from them? Point being maybe the Bama OL is being a bit overrated. I think they'll be strong come September as always but the other edge of the sword is bad for the OL that was blocking Hubbard.

LSU's OL is quite stout and has 2 possible 1st rounders I've seen projected in next years draft(Faulk and Hurst). We're on par with Bama's. Just because Barrett Jones(who's great) and Cyrus etc have bigger and more known names doesn't mean they're better. Both teams have good OL talent and strong solid depth. Gonna be some wars in that game. Bama's best defenses under Saban hasn't exactly dominated LSU up front aside from the game on Jan 9. Don't have a clue what happened then. I chalk it up to Bama just being better and definitely better that night.

Tidesports on Kublanow:

quote:

Rivals250 prospect Brandon Kublanow wanted to come to Tuscaloosa for A-Day to take a closer look at the University of Alabama and the Crimson Tide. He headed home to Marietta, Ga., with a better idea of what it would be like to attend and play for Alabama.

"It was really nice, nice facilities, nice people," Kublanow said. "I had a good time."

The 290-pound center out of Walton High School described his recruitment as wide open and said he plans to narrow his list down to four or five schools within the next couple of weeks. Although Kublanow did not leave with a scholarship offer in hand, he said Alabama's standing is better than it was before he came to Tuscaloosa.

Kublanow didn't get to meet any players or UA coach Nick Saban, but did speak with offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland and defensive coordinator Kirby Smart. Kublanow described his prospective position coach as a good guy and great coach, but it was Smart who made the biggest impression on him.

"He's really energetic," Kublanow said. "He's a lot of fun to be around."

Before Kublanow watched the White defeat the Crimson 24-15, he got to watch Trent Richardson, Mark Barron and Dont'a Hightower place their hands in fresh cement near Denny Chimes for the Walk of Champions Ceremony.

"I had fun today," Kublanow said. "Everything went really well."

I rarely if ever post in Bama's recruiting thread but I honestly can't believe y'all haven't offered Kublanow. He's probably the OL I want 2nd most that we're recruiting behind Tunsil.

Hubbard didn't terrorize the O-line. 2 of his 3 sacks came against the H-back. Granted, we'll need our H-back to play better during the season, but Hubbard's performance was not an indictment on the O-line.

2 possible 1st rounders vs. 2 locks & a 3rd as a possibility

& it helped that Hubbard has the damn arms of Shaq, super athletic as well, OL didn't know what to do with his athletic ability/speed when he was blitzing, the few times he came in last year he was a force to be reckoned with

Jared Belson of draftsite predicts Jones, Fluker, and Warmack all in the 1st. Bama had 4 overall with Lester joining them.

By comparison, LSU had Faulk go round 1 and Hurst at the top of Round 2. TM7 and Montgomery were also predicted 1st Round picks.

Not a science with his predictions, but he does get nationally published.

I guess the same thing that happened the last two times. A.J. wasn't touch much the first time around and wasn't at all the second game. Regardless, Hubbard is going to make a name for himself this year. But his three sacks weren't all on the OL. An H-back whiffed twice.

Guards get first round grades all the time. It's only a mock draft. I know they rarely go in the first round, and it's been several years since on has, but he's likely a second or third round guy.
