From someone who has seen Hayes play 4 times, he would make a helluva HB. Very good with the ball, and tough to tackle

I really like Calloway at HB. I think he could do soon damage catching balls.

They have said he is pretty quick for his size, was the fastest LB when he was over there. If he can combine that size and speed combo and the wiggle of a RB, he could do well there.

Nuss could even treat him as a F-Back and give him some carries from the position as well...

I'm pretty sure he's only back there to help with the depleted RB situation. I believe he'll be back at LB for the Fall.

*By depleted, I mean healthy #'s.

Calloway was running pass drills with the TE/HB in the pre-scrimage drills today rather than with the RB. BC at HB would certainly give DC's a little something extra to worry about when he motions thru the backfield or on a tight end arround.

Isn't Tyler Hayes supposed to get a look at HB also when he gets to campus?

That's what he's tweeting

Updates:

1st offense goes 3 and out on frist drive. 2nd drive, HaHa picks off a pass from AJ McCarron.

3rd drive - another 3 and out.

Next drive, ~20 yard TD pass to D. White

Vinnie Sunseri took the ball from Philip Ely on a sack, and ran it in for a TD

**** These are text updates from a fellow staff member (HS coach) who was able to attend the scrimmage

Brent Calloway fumbles the ball. Trey DePriest scoops and scores.

On the scoop and score by DePriest, Vinnie "crushed Ely after the scoop by Trey"... also got a text that says "Ely is worst QB ever"
Ouch.

Chris Black beat Dee Milliner on a slant with an incredible catch. Sims at QB.

Mandell is "hitting absolute bombs" on his punts.
3rd group currently in.

Foster misses "chipshot"
Kicks next kickoff through the endzone for a touchback.
AJ back in and throws a 40 yard pass to C. Jones. No TD, but great throw and catch.

quote:

-- AJ McCarron 15 yd. TD pass to Christion Jones.
-- When asked about the secondary:

"Defense looks good..."

"1's aint gave up anything"

-- Jalston has had a couple of nice runs, but "they ain't running on our defense very good"

Also said that our first group of DL "is killin' the OL"

To this point, we haven't had any 1s on 1s. It's 1st group Defense vs 2nd Offense, 1st offense vs. 2nd defense.

quote:

-- First series of 1s on 1s resulted in a 3 and out.

-- TJ Yeldon getting reps in the first group over D. Hart. That's a bit surprising. Maybe coaches are giving them both a look with the first unit offensive line vs. a great defensive line. Not sure how much I'd read into that.

-- Yeldon has been looking "okay" with the first unit.

-- One of my earlier posts said Calloway fumbled while playing RB. That was a mistake on my part. He was playing H-Back.
I asked for clarification from my guy and he said he was at H-back and that "he's struggling"

-- Another TD pass to Christion Jones from AJ McCarron. This time in a goalline situation.

quote:

-- Tj Yeldon with a fumble.

-- Jalston Fowler with two TDs. One receiving, one rushing.

-- I asked if Hart had done anything, and he said Hart caught a nice screen against the 2s for about 30 yards.

-- Jalston Fowler with a 68 yard touchdown against the 1st defense.

quote:

Vinnie Sunseri injured his "lower leg"... looked bad initially, but he's back in the scrimmage again.

Saban:

quote:

*** Improvement was key today, but only 1st units really showed it, Saban said.

*** McCarron played well. Offense started slow but got better and running game was better than last weekend.

*** DeAndrew White caught 5 passes.

*** The 1st defense played well despite a couple of mental errors.

quote:

*** Ankle sprains for J.Williams and V.Sunseri, but nothing too serious.

quote:

*** Belue and Dee Hart competing with C.Jones at punt returner. ... Said Amari Cooper has been given a look as a KOR.

I'm actually pretty disappointed in him depending on what exactly the situational drill was.

Under 4 yards a carry without it, and he got the lion's share of carries...

He will if he has learned the playbook. Otherwise he is going to end up being Brandon Gibson v2.0

I still remember that huge A-day that Gibson had in '10 with AJ throwing him the ball. I thought he was going to make an impact that fall. Nope. Then with AJ the starter in '11, I thought Gibson might be a big contributor since he and AJ had looked so good together the previous A-Day. Nope.

I also remember watching Earl Alexander catching a TD in one A-day and thinking he could be a big time weapon. Wrong again.

He was gonna throw out of the Wildcat LSU '09, I just know it. Julio was usually the motion sweep man, but it was EA that time.

A freakin' penalty stopped the play though...
