You must be using NFL Stats because McFadden was definitely 1 of the top 5 RBs in SEC History.

That 07 game he had against us was one of the best I've ever witnessed- sadly.

A lack of perspective.

The history of the SEC isn't filled with guys who won multiple Doak Walkers, finished as runner up in the Heisman Trophy *twice*, who won 2 Jim Brown Awards, rank second in career rushing yards and all purpose yards, and who hold the SEC single game record for rushing yardage.

Making Houston Nutt look like anything other than a monkey fornicating with a football in bad lighting for even a millisecond is just icing on the cake.

Lack of perspective my arse. No serious discussion of the Top 5 can not include McFadden in the conversation at the very least.

I agree with you 100%. There are a LOT of guys that don't know football if they fall to realize how good McFadden was as a RB.

McFadden is 2nd ALL-Time in SEC History in terms of rushing yards behind Herschel Walker.......He did this in 3 YEARS....but some folks here say he's not top 5 in the SEC RBs All-Time? Seriously? The dude averaged more than 1,500 yards per season.

1. Herschel Walker- 5,259 (3 years)
2. Darren McFadden-4,590 (3 years)
3. Kevin Faulk-4,557 (4 years)

Bump for response......as I'm just waiting to see the names that should be ahead of McFadden.

I'm Ole-School.....Emmitt Smith was "good" in college but he wasn't McFadden. As I said earlier, I think people are using "NFL Stats" in assessing these players......which is flawed.

Why wouldn't you put Newton with Tebow? Tebow was a great player... surrounded by SEC all-stars and future NFL players. Tebow's "legend" had a LOT of help in the making. Newton's? Not so much.

UF fans will probably hate on me for saying this, but Percy Harvin was as much to blame for Tebow's success as Tebow. The guy was the perfect blend of speed and power, and few guys were big enough/fast enough to bring him down on the edge. JMHO so please to hate.

At the 6:45 mark was the most electrified I've ever seen WMS. Then Trindon kicked the entire stadium in the dick the next highlight.

you guys are ridiculous, Derrick Thomas had 27 sacks in ONE season....if someone did that nowadays he would be labled a god. DT was by far one of the best SEC players EVER and as a pro....

edit: just let that 27 sack thing set in...lolwegoingtothebcsnationalchampionshipgame.

1. Bo Jackson
2. Herschel Walker
3. Y.A.Title
4. Joe Namath
5. Derrick Thomas
6. Ken Stabler
7. Billy Cannon
8. Peyton/Archie Manning
9. Reggie White
10. Leroy Jordan
11. Cam Newton
12. Tommy Casanova

Here's my jumping off point:

1) 1942 - Frank Sinkwich, Georgia
2) 1959 - Billy Cannon, LSU
3) 1966 - Steve Spurrier, Florida
4) 1971 - Pat Sullivan, Auburn
5) 1980 - George Rogers, South Carolina
6) 1982 - Herschel Walker, Georgia
7) 1985 - Bo Jackson, Auburn
8) 1996 - Danny Wuerffel, Florida
9) 2007 - Tim Tebow, Florida
10) 2009 - Mark Ingram, Alabama

Best RB - Herschel Walker

Best QB - Steve Spurrier

Because the Heisman list is all QBs/TBs, I have to look at others:

WRs: Josh Reed, Craig Yeast and DJ Hall (yards and catches don't lie)

OL: I can see consensus around Andre Smith, Oher (yeah, I know PR is awesome) and Faneca, but there have literally been hundreds of great OLinemen, Samuels and Hannah out of Bama, Andolsek and Wilkerson out of LSU, Bob Johnson out of Tennessee, and the list just goes on and on for 75 years back.

IF I have to pick 1 Guard, 1 Center and 1 Tackle, I go Faneca, Bob Johnson and Andre Smith.

The SEC defenses have been better than offenses over the years. Just at LSU, Casanova, Glen Dorsey and Patrick Peterson are defenders that were "best in a long time" at their position, even when Dorsey was hurt.

I'm willing to put up Casanova as the best SEC DB ever, Derrick Thomas as the best LB and Reggie White as the best DL.

That's way more than 5, but it is what it is.

ETA: If I have to name a guy that might have to play any position at any time - it's Billy Cannon.

Best defensive football player I ever saw in person, period. Mathieu may change my mind over the next couple of seasons.

Bradie James and Michael Brooks were LSU LBers that were "almost" as good as DT - but not quite. Beast mode.

Billy Cannon and Frank Sinkwich would never survive in the modern game. And Sinkwich, even for his time, was very good, but not even the best player in the region!

Ever heard of Steve Van Buren??? Sinkwich was a Johnny Come Lately who had a big senior year, won the Heisman, had ONE good year in the NFL and vanished.

I'd cut the first four off of your list and start debating from there.
