In what season did your team really shock your expectations, one way or the other?

For LSU. I will go very recent and say 2018. I thought O was a poor hire as many did, and I just thought things where about to head south. It seemed like the offseason was one negative story after another, we whiffed on many recruits, players where transferring, and to top it off we had what looked to be on paper a very brutal start to the season.

I didnt expect a full disaster, but 6-6/7-5 wouldnt have shocked me, but I held out hope, and we pulled a 10 win season with a good bowl win that laid the foundation for the natty in 2019.

How is a fiesta bowl win over UCF more surprising than having the greatest single season of all time?

Because I thought wed be good in 2019, just not as good as we where sure. In 2018 I didnt think this O thing was going to work.

2012 was not expected.

Talented team that abandoned the coaching staff and gave no shite.

2008 came out of no where comparatively to the disaster that 2007 became.

Surprisingly Good - 2012.

We were unranked and Manziel comes out of nowhere . . . .3 star recruit Mike Evans looks like an all pro .defense plays extremely well. Our 2 losses that year were by a combined 8 points. Finished 5th in the country,

Surprisingly Bad - 1995.

We were preseason #3 and several publications had us #1. We completely fail against Colorado in Boulder. We then belly flop against Texas Tech. We throw a pick 6 to Zach Thomas in the last moments to blow the game. We also drop a game against a mediocre Longhorn squad. We managed to beat Michigan in the Bowl Game but barely finished in the Top 25. RC Slocum had jumped the shark at that point.

2002 for UGA. We were horrible in the 90s except 1997 and I'll say 2017

Yeah if Auburn didn’t pay Cam, that season was 11-1 at worst

Last season. I still can’t explain how we managed an 8-win season losing that many QBs and resorting to Bowden under center.

2014 for me. I really thought there would be a bit of a drop off after losing McCarron, CJ Mosley, Clinton Dix, Kevin Norwood, etc..

I was even more convinced it would be a "down year" when Blake Sims was announced as the QB before West Virginia. That team was fun to watch grow.

I thought Alabama would be much better in 2008. On an old board I use to post at I even had them winning the west at 9-3 (and losing to 11-1 Florida who I had in the BCS NCG). Caught a lot of flack from LSU and Auburn fans for my "homer" pick (For the record I had them at 9-3 and 6-6. They went 7-5 and 5-7 so those guys could suck it).

I thought there was no way Bama would win in both Athens and Baton Rouge. Happy to be wrong on both counts. That was a great surprising season.
