Lets stop dancing around it and just admit that universities are poorly running a minor league football league so they can collect the profits.

Yep, they are professional athletes on one year contracts (well, technically 6 month contracts) who make more money than working adults

That’s not the norm. Most schools make it very easy to complete class work and assignments, and definitely hold you accountable. “Either you quit or you graduate.” You’re doing the work if you go path #2…but you have tudors daily.

One day, all scholarship athletes will do nothing on campus but train for their sport year-round without ever stepping foot in a classroom or an online course.

Do you think classes shut down as a whole in 2020? Everyone went virtual. Universities can now enroll more students than ever, take their money and provide a lower quality of education.

No kidding. Imagine paying for a degree from UC Boulder and receiving a correspondence course certificate disguised as a degree from a University. My son was a Junior in 2020 and finished up his degree remotely. It cost EXACTLY what it would have cost had he been in class. He had to remain in Denver because UC Boulder kept telling them that in person classes could start any day...they never did. Every young adult who went through it should immediately retain attorneys and sue for the damages they can easily prove...they could have gotten the same degree from a mail order university for half the price.

The university is really a dinosaur, the idea that you have to go somewhere to get an education. You can learn anything you want online w/o having to go to college.

You can learn the mechanics, you can't learn the more valuable things that attending classes in person in a formal setting provide. I went to a university that was almost 100% adult learners. It was basically a trade school compared to what was taught at a more traditional university. Nothing at all wrong with that...in that era it cost about 25% as much as attending its affiliated traditional university. Thats not the case now...with distant and remote learning there is no cost difference other than living expenses.

I hate to admit it, but I think you're right on. When players don't have to go to classes on campus and interact with other students, how can you consider yourself a part of the university? Basically, they can get someone to do everything for them online to keep the eligible and they will show up for practice and games only. That's a complete travesty!

If that's the case, instead of putting the players last name on the back of the jersey, we should put "For Rent Only" because basically that is what is happening.

but at some point you have to put your hands on tools and raw materials, right? (I get that you can pick up good pointers about specifics, though.)

Deion didn't go to a single class his final fall semester and flunked out and the president and athletic director knew about it and still let him play in a bowl game.

A ton of students skip class TBF and while I didn't do it for 3 years, I definitely spent a couple semesters being less than present too lol. That was back in the stone ages of online learning, B.C. indeed.

Another way of looking at it: These guys are getting paid BUCKS to win football games. Would you slack on your $500k a year job to go to some boring Gen. Studies webinars all week??

School is not even close to a factor for these top dudes.

I understand what you're saying, but if they don't want to even be a part of campus life, let them sign all the NIL deals they want and give that scholarship to another talented player that truly wants to be a part of the university and wants to enjoy the full college experience.
