I understand what you're saying, but if they don't want to even be a part of campus life, let them sign all the NIL deals they want and give that scholarship to another talented player that truly wants to be a part of the university and wants to enjoy the full college experience.

Absolutely...they will actually use it instead of squandering the opportunity like a lot of these guys do.

At some point I think you have to ask where school factors into the equation at all though.

The guys we're talking about would most likely not be enrolled in any post-high school education football or not. Some of them may have never even graduated high school - coaches care a LOT about their players

Seems to me like US college sports are the equivalent of the local city/regional soccer clubs in Europe. I know soccer academies provide academics to a point but not college degree level academics.

When I was in graduate school I taught a science course for non science majors I had a football player who came to the first class and then never showed up again. At the end of the semester he dropped by my office and asked if I would “meet with his coach to see what he could do to pass the course.”

I told him I would not meet with the coach, but he could have the guy’s wife drop by one night. The player got all huffy with me. He was the only student I ever had with a perfect zero in my course. Sadly, before every quiz I had a study session with whomever wanted to show up and I basically went over every question on the exam.
