I'd rather have someone with a proven track record like Hall & Oates

I doubt Oats jumps ship this quickly. Now, if we don’t pay the man and he takes us to the tourney in back to back seasons and makes a sweet 16 or two then maybe. Also, if I were him, I’d be pushing for a new Arena. Bama has the money and the fan base has been wanting a good basketball team for a LONG time. We could easily fill up a huge basketball arena and be just as hard an out as anyone in the county.

BAMA has been committed to a complete makeover of the coliseum before we hired the guy. Oats has made his intentions very clear on several occasions. This thread is only for the insecure. Of which there are many.

The AD and the President of the school should meet with him this afternoon and show him in writing that a new Basketball arena will be built starting no later than August,1 2021 and he will receive a 1,000,000.00 raise effective immediately.

This sounds crazy af, but I will honestly agree with that. This guy has turned around a program that literally chokes every season with good talent. I know the season is still young, but facts are facts. The dude has got these players absolutely dominating against tournament teams! I know the shooting can’t keep up forever, but it doesn’t have to when you are winning by 25+. You could have a cold shooting night and win by 7-10 at the rate they are playing defensively as well. Just gotta keep it up.

There's really only been a couple of games where they shot particularly well as a team. Honestly, we started the year shooting horribly. Those games cancel out the couple of good shooting games. Our average is probably right around where it will stay, or even a bit low.

I hope so. Especially with the system creating open shots. It’s just hard to imagine as a young Bama basketball fan

The key here is to have multiple shooters. ALL shooters have OFF and ON nights. When you have 5 or 6 guys who can score from outside, chances are that several will most always be ON.
Hell, Primo saves our asses against Auburn, and Shackelford couldn't shoot a lick against LSU...but everybody else could.
PS- the ONE thing that will keep us winning is the great defense they're playing.

I haven't watched Alabama yet, but this sounds a lot like the Doug McDermott Creighton teams. They had a bunch of good shooters. On rare occasions, they would all be on fire for one night. I remember watching them go play a top 5 Villanova team on the road, and those frickers came out and hit their first 10 three pointers. They had 30 points on the board in less than 5 minutes. It was mesmerizing. They steamrolled Villanova that night.

Multiple shooters really helps; but the key is to play great defense. I've said it several teams; the thing that impressed me the most the other night, even with the phenomenal shooting, was the way Alabama played defense. They clearly have bought in to what Oats wants, and that makes them very dangerous.

Kentucky will create a lot of bad will if they steal Oats. UGA fans never forgave UK for stealing Tubby Smith.

That's exactly how it was!
NOBODY wanted part of those Creighton teams, and I believe that Oats has modeled much of his approach to the game after them.
They're not only fun to watch, but they attract today's elite players.

There's a McDermott disciple killing it at Drake. If Oats was gone, I bet Byrne gives him a look.

That Creighton team could shoot; they couldn't dream of playing defense like Alabama does. They didn't have the athletes. That's why when they had an off shooting night, they were in trouble.

Yeah, the defense is the difference in this year's Alabama team.

During the LSU game, when Petty, Quinerly and Primo all started so hot an announcer made the point that all three of those offensive stars were benched early in the season to get their attention about commitment to defending.

I love his offensive philosophy of emphasizing the 3, which was popular with a lot of teams in the 90s. I’m not sure why everyone got away from it. With the recruits he could draw at Kentucky, Oats would be enormously successful and would be the BMOC rather than playing second fiddle to Saban.

And therein lies the reason UK will never again have an elite football coach. Had Paul Bryant playing second fiddle to Adolph Rupp.

Coach Bryant used to tell the story about the year his 1950 Kentucky football team beat #1 Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl and was ranked #1 in 3 different polls, while Coach Rupp's basketball team won the Nat'l Championship.
At the year end All-Sport banquet in Lexington, Coach Bryant was presented with a gold watch, and Coach Rupp was presented with a.....Cadillac!
He said, "that was when I know it was time to go"
