Yes they are. And the Regents and state give humongous amounts of money to UGA. In the last 15 years or so the campus has been transformed from a pretty place to an absolutely gorgeous campus. From what I see when UGA has to make that trip to the states oldest stadium next to a hamburger joint it doesn’t look like GT has fared very well. Very run down and not very safe.

Oh, the irony. See below to find out who the “daddy” is.

In February 1883, Harris submitted a second version, this time with the support of contemporary political leaders Joseph M. Terrell and R. B. Russell as well as the popular support of the influential State Agricultural Society and the leaders of the University of Georgia, the latter of which would be the "parent college" of any state technical school.[10] I

There really isn’t a rivalry between UGA and GT anymore. Their fans don’t care to show up for a sure beating so we see very few of them in Athens - they regularity return a huge share of their ticket allotment- and we paint their stadium red when we have to go to Atlanta. Georgia fills at least 60-70% of their stadium and after the half it’s hard to find any Tech fan that doesn’t have to stay like the band and team.
Their administration doesn’t care about athletics and won’t upgrade dated facilities. The student body is about one third foreign and another third is from the NE where football isn’t a big deal. Most alumni don’t attend games and don’t contribute. The few fans they do have whine constantly about not getting respect. Georgia is on their mind 24/7 and a big topic on their sports boards. They live in UGAs shadow and don’t like it one bit so they bitch and whine. They would be a real drag on the SEC. No money, terrible athletic programs and a minuscule fan base. And for all their big talk of character and doing things right the NCAA got them for major violations not that long ago. Academic fraud and loss of institutional control among the violations

Have you visited GaTech’s campus recently? I live about four miles away and it’s the most improved campus in the nation over the past 30 years.

Not only has the lottery kept the smartest students in state it has made UGA very hard to get into and even harder to stay in. It has also caused some discontent inside the state as some fans who graduated from UGA and give millions to the school find that their kid with great grades and SATs didnt qualify. UGA for good or bad is now basically a school comprised largely of kids from the private academically advanced N Atlanta schools.

I work at Kennesaw State University. Georgia Tech is NOT a part of the “University of Georgia” system. There is no University of Georgia System. There is a “University System of Georgia”, which is comprised of all 26 public universities in Georgia.

You guys seemed to get a lot more triggered by us than we do about you.

If you are referring to the NCAA violations for the basketball team, they are ridiculous. A former acquaintance of the coach, Ron Bell, had his girlfriend falsely accuse him of sexual assault and this same person claimed he paid some basketball players. Sounds like the dude was just being vindictive against the coach. I don't think he can be considered credible.

quote:

Ron Bell, a former friend of Pastner’s, was convicted on six misdemeanor counts of soliciting or influencing a witness, two counts of evidence tampering, two counts of attempted tampering with a witness, false information and facilitation of fraud, scheme and practice.

If you are talking about the 2011 violation that caused us to forfeit a bunch of games, the ACC Championship and Orange Bowl game, yeah...those were horrible things we allowed to occur....oh the horror.

The NCAA said Georgia Tech should have declared receiver Demaryius Thomas ineligible after he accepted $312 worth of clothing in '09 from former Yellow Jackets quarterback Calvin Booker

Georgia Tech is superior to Georgia in every way academically and financially. Georgia's a bit better in football. Congrats.

So are you saying that Georgia is to GT what Auburn is to Georgia?

That’s why I turned down GT for Auburn :D

We literally own these programs. Neither one is much of a rivalry anymore. GT is having a problem dealing with UGAs new academic standing. If they can’t brag about academic superiority they have nothing left. And guess what they now have nothing left anymore. And they are always acting like their athletes are rocket scientists who take calculus. Well the cats out of they bag. Their plsyers are the same recruits other schools are going after. The problem for Tech is that they have to settle for the leftovers after the elite programs choose their players. And that so called calculus class they love to brag about is a special math class that’s created just for them. It is not the same class their general student body takes. These secrets are opening talked about on the Tech chat sites. My cousin a Techie told me this years ago and a few months ago showed me a couple of posts on the Swarm site where some disgruntled Techies were blaming calculus for their poor recruiting. Others set him straight

Sorry but GT made their decision in 1963 because they were greedy and selfish.

So while they may want to be invited back to the SEC they will not be. Case closed.

FYI GTs so called NC was a co National championship shared with Colorado in 1990.
1990 was the year Ray Goff became HC at UGA and was the worst year in decades at Georgia.

Now that would be an accurate assessment of history, sir ;)

Edit - if you would not have put “so called” It was an actual national championship
