Well why the hell not. If you remember there was a football league at one time where the chicks playing were half naked. Why not go all the way with softball lol. You would have to learn to take the good with the bad though because I have seen some big girls playing softball.

Like I have said many times on here I am not a big baseball fan. It’s just to slow and bores me to death.

Yeah to you.... You think they are going to create a league just for you?

I don't watch baseball on TV at all, but I do enjoy going to watch our triple A team

It’s much faster paced and 2 innings shorter

With the advent of the pitch clock, it really isn't faster paced. Pitchers/batters take forever to throw a pitch just like they did in baseball. The only reason today it is faster is because it's 7 innings.

Women’s softball is the ONLY women’s sport I can actually watch. Lots of action and fast paced

More of a chess match as well compared to today's MLB with the DH.

What? How is it more of a chess match? Softball has the DP as well (equivalent of the DH).

I watched a couple of innings of a BB game a week or two ago just to see if the pitch clock helped. It didn’t. Slow as ever to me. Softball is much faster. The hitters are not scratching and adjusting their crotch then stepping into the batters box then calling time and stepping out of the box. Take a few practice swings and repeat process. When the chicks get up there to bat they don’t screw around much. The game moves so much faster plus being 2 innings shorter.

Absolutely - and I think the main reason for that is they built a sport that accepts that women aren't the same as men and it is tailored for them. Unlike basketball, where you are watching less athletic people play the same game on the same floor with the same dimensions (other than the ball), softball is a game everyone recognizes (baseball), but built to still be fast paced and electric for a different gender.

I do think that eliminating slap hitting has made it less fun to watch. It's turned it much more into what baseball had become - 3 true outcome type stuff (HR, K, BB). I wish they'd switch the step on the batters box line back to how it used to be.

I'm not a softball expert, but there is a lot more subbing.
Slap hitters.
Pinch runners.
Bringing in the batters with the big butts (football reference... not sexual).

It is my opinion that a good manager can more easily win/affect a series in softball versus baseball.
In baseball, the talent is so good that the managers try not to get in the way (Bobby cox, snitker).

I will have to say women’s hockey is pretty good. It’s not better than the men but it’s just as fun to watch. I really get into it when the USWNT play during the Olympics.

I mean that's just not true now with the pitch clock. You're seeing what you want to see.

The only women’s sport anyone gives a shite about due primarily to the talent of the ladies is gymnastics.

Some might say tennis with people like the Williams sisters, but in tennis the women are lucky and get to ride the coattails of the men by competing in the same tournaments at the same time. If the women were playing in New York at the same time the men were playing in Paris, no one would give a frick. I once saw Venus Williams play in Miami right before Djokovic. If Djokovic hadn’t been playing, it wouldn’t have even crossed my mind to be at that tournament.

In every other sport, people only pay attention to the women due to school (NCAA) or national (Olympics or World Cup) pride. Put them in a new league without a built in fan base and no one gives a frick. Hell, most people don’t even care about the men in new leagues. How many football leagues have folded?

I don't really watch MLB, so I'm comparing college baseball to college softball. Yeah slap hitting is definitely something different (my daughter is a slapper). The sub rules do allow for much more pinch running since you're allowed to re-enter. But the DH vs DP is really no difference.

The couple of innings I watched looked like the same old baseball to me. If it was any faster I could not notice a really big difference in the speed of the game from years past.

Why should any professional league be required to subsidize something they know will lose money?

If women's sports were appealing, audiences would already be watching.

I doubt it could do worse than the WNBA.

It certainly seems more popular at the college level. Perhaps because the WNBA athletes don’t appear to be playing as hard as the softball athletes. I’ve always been impressed at how hard the girls on the softball field play. WNBA players seem as lackadaisical as NBA players but without the talent to make the games interesting despite that attitude.

Agree.

My daughter played travel until she left for Bama. I love the sport and it did wonders for her growing up. I think girls should a team sport of some kind since there is so much pressure on girls to compete with each other over stupid things like hair color growing up!

I watch college softball, Alabama during the regular season, and most teams during the supers and the WCWS. But that is where I stop. I have no interest in watching professional softball at all. The players in pro softball do not represent the type of women I would have wanted my young daughter to grow up to be like.

I’m not so sure that a woman’s pro softball league that has the backing of the MLB and its tv connections would lose money tbh. I just do not think it’s a forgone conclusion at all if you put the teams in the right cities.

For example if the MLB did this and put a team in B’ham or Huntsville I think it would work very well here. The Rhodes House is packed every game. I know those people are coming to support the school but Bama has had a few players over the years that fans fell in love with. Montana Fouts is a very good example of this years team. As long as they do not schedule the games in a dumb way like on Monday or Tuesday night then I’m sure people here in Alabama would go out to the park to watch her pitch. If a pro softball league was created with teams put in the right areas they would need to make sure the rosters would need a strong local flavor for the first little while at least. I really do think though a professional women’s softball league would be the best team sport out of all of them to have a chance to succeed and make money. I think the WNBA has been doing a little better the past few years. It seems more popular now than it ever has I will put it that way.
