Its going to happen...maybe not affiliated with MLB but probably will be. The media, especially sports media, has been playing up softball for about 3 years...it is obvious what the end result is. They talk about the energy in the crowd and on the field and how the game is fast paced and such an enjoyable experience for fans...it has all of the elements required to be fantastically entertaining. The only area in television where advertising is still being sold is in live sports...and the networks are clamoring for more and more live sports....combine it with women playing (the WNBA is a joke because the NBA and basketball in general is a joke, no one is interested) and it is the perfect answer to sell shite like beer, insurance and vehicles.

I got caught up in it and watched about 3 innings of UGA FSU about a week or so ago. It was almost as energetic and entertaining as watching paint dry but not as intriguing as watching grass grow....but it will get a major push and the pundits will extoll the virtues and it may well make it. It never pays to bet against what Americans will waste their time watching on TV....

No more propping leagues up. Just let the market figure it out.

Not sure why MLB should be involved, but I would support a pro softball league. The product is marketable, unlike the WNBA, which IMO is the worst run pro league in existence.

Well the WNBA would have folded a long time ago without being connected to the NBA. To give a pro softball league its best shot at making it long term I was just suggesting that it should have the same connections. If MLB stepped up and got this thing off the ground it might not guarantee the league made it but those MLB connections can’t hurt either.

True, but I believe that if serious, successful business people put together a pro softball league, it would fly.

That's all it takes?

Using the most serious business people?

Yeah I think it could work out too. The reason I think a pro softball league would work out better than the WNBA and other women’s team sports is there would be so much more talent. They could choose to start out with a large amount of teams and have plenty of talent league wide and create so much parity that games would be entertaining and competitive. If they awarded teams to the right cities where you could get good crowds to come out and be loud where it looks and sounds good on tv to go along with all that talent on the field and parity across the league then people will eventually find it on tv or go to a game. I think a pro softball league done right could absolutely smoke the WNBA and other women’s sports.

I don’t even watch Auburn that much so really doubt I’d watch a team I have no rooting interest in.

But it seems like it would be more popular than WNBA

I agree, and am somewhat surprised that it hasn't already happened. It's possible that the abject failure of the WNBA could possibly be scaring off potential investors.
