The recent trajectory of both coaches is pretty different.

This would make sense if LSU fans laughed at the hire then. LSU fans literally wanted the dude the year before A&M and were very upset we settled on O.

We just laugh at him now because he’s garbage tier.

All things being equal I like our chances in that matchup going forward.

Jimbo turned down more money to go to LSU, so he apparently doesn't think the point stands anymore. There was a time when it did. But not anymore.

You know LSU posters on this very site have admitted that Woody offered Jimbo the LSU job, right?

Jimbo had a terrible last year but the 4 seasons before it they went to 4 NY6/BCS Bowls and finished ranked #1, #5, #14 and #8. From 2012-2016 they went 59-9.

Now, you can argue his last 2-3 years were fool's gold because of their schedule.....but.......well.....the similarities continue.

Kelly is a very good coach, though. He's the poor man's Jimbo Fisher.

Seems obviously true to me. Your own AD agrees, as he offered Jimbo first. Jimbo has no buyout at A&M so he can walk whenever he wants. Woody offered him 104 million over 8 years, but Jimbo never seriously considered it.

The LSU AD reacted by trying to find a Jimbo lite, and got one in Kelly. Kelly is a great coach and a good hire, but I think he's not sufficiently proven to warrant a 90 million dollar guarantee.

This is a good thread, but Kelly doesn't have any major bowl wins, and doesn't have any major conference championships. Jimbo has plenty of both

Good point. If past “major” conference championships are an indicator of future major conference championships, how many had Jimbo won at Texas 8&4?

Also, I love how the Aggies keep throwing out “major” conference championships to knock Kelly when his last team didn’t play in a conference. Meanwhile, Jimbo racked up conference title game wins against: Georgia Tech (2) and Duke.

Funny how the “major” conference championships stopped rolling in once Clemson started winning.

You think LSU fans on this message board had any idea what Woodward was doing throughout this search? I think how everything worked out shows no one knew a damn thing. I mean it's been a running joke how bad LSU "insiders" have been on this board for years, because they are bad and have been spectacularly wrong about almost everything they've posted. You can't say they don't know anything and then try to piggy-back on other posts when it fits your argument.

Brian Kelly has one advantage, he has experience with some very strong made up internet stories. Probably a key skill these days

I think pretty much anyone could do Scott Woodward’s job.

Just throw $90-$100 mil guaranteed at coaches. You’ll get someone to take it.
